Mr and Mrs Arthur F Mayo of High street received a War Department telegram announcing the death of their son Pfc Wallace Sargent Mayo in action in Germany. He served in an antitank outfit with the Third Army after enlisting in 1944 leaving Morse High School. Born in Claremont New Hampshire he moved to this city in 1929 and attended Grace Episcopal church. He had a brother Lieut Howard W Mayo and an older brother A Farley Mayo who died previously.

Goodrich Destroyer Commissioned at Boston Navy Yard
The 2200 ton destroyer USS Goodrich was placed in commission at Boston Navy Yard on Tuesday with Rear Admiral Felix Gygax presiding. Commander Dale R. Frakes assumed command, and Lt Harold C. Strong became executive officer. The ship honors Rear Admiral Caspar Frederick Goodrich and his son, Lt Caspar Goodrich, both deceased. Built by Bath Iron Works, it was launched February 25, 1945 and christened by Mrs Caspar F. Goodrich of Princeton New Jersey.
