A cemetery grass fire in Calvary spread into Sewall's woods near High street and Whiskey Creek, burning three to four acres before crews laid hoses and pumps from Harvard and Washington streets. The blaze threatened evergreens but was contained by 6 45 PM after a 5 05 PM alarm. Spectators watched from nearby roads as engines battled the flames and two and one half inch hoses fed the line.

Howe home Burlington Vermont and Emerson School of Oratory Boston graduate served four years as Girl Scout director in Melrose Massachusetts. Her election as local and camp director seen as ensuring program continuity. She assumed duties April 10.
