Communities celebrate May as Bicycle Month with free safety inspections launched in 1959 by the Bicycle Institute of America. Police and civic groups support safety rules, bike tours, and demonstrations to boost rider competence and top performance for a safer year-round riding culture.

Dr. Paul Woodring argues boards hire superintendents set policy and approve budgets within state law. educated citizens start with capable teachers and elected boards. Citizens should attend meetings and exercise their right to elect the right people to run their schools.
A Shell Oil Company funded nationwide program by the National Safety Council invites women and women’s groups to compete for the Carol Lane Awards for Traffic Safety. Top winners receive $1,000 Savings Bonds and trips to Chicago for the award.
The piece argues for swiftly cutting armed forces by over 70000 and trimming the January draft call by 2000 while noting the Selective Service law expires June 30. Yet draft boss Lieut. Gen. Lewis B. Hershey warns the nation cannot reach two million without the system, urging caution before ending the draft.

Harriett Blaisdell 83 native of Bath and widow of Oakes Blaisdell died Wednesday at a Groton Connecticut hospital after a brief illness. Born May 30 1875 she was daughter of Henry and Joanna Small and attended Bath Schools. She lived in Kittery many years before returning to Bath and later moved to Groton to live with her son Carl Blaisdell. She was a member of the Kittery Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are son Carl Blaisdell of Groton sister Georgina Thorpe of Bath brother Delwin Small of Mystic and a grandson plus four nieces and a nephew. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm from Curtis Funeral Home with burial at Oak Grove. Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening.
Charles H Felch a retired blacksmith age 75 and former Bath resident died Thursday afternoon in Rockland after a brief illness He was born January 28 1883 in Elkheart Indiana to Henry and Mary Colson Felch Surviving are his widow Marie Wallace Felch a sister Delia Day of Rockland a nephew and a niece Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Leslie C Shumway funeral home 638 High street Interment in Oak Grove family lot
Funeral service for Richard C. Morse was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home with Rev. Martin v. B. Sargent of Winter Street Congregational Church officiating. Bearers were Charles Morse, John G. Morse, Richard P. Morse, Harold Mott, Harold Rogers, and Arthur Stewart. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs John Wakefield of 93 Bedford Street entertained Friday evening in honor of Mr Wakefield's birthday and to welcome weekend guests including Mrs Salvatore Pignatone of Dorchester and Mrs William Zaffanii of Boston. The gathering at Bath featured many local residents and families from Topsham Brunswick and Washington D C.
Mrs Emma F Bunker 71 of Woolwich died suddenly Thursday in Springfield Massachusetts while returning from wintering in Arizona. Born October 20 1887 in Solon she was daughter of Frank and Hannah Chase. Surviving husband Chester C Bunker three sons Kenneth Huff Scarborough Charles Huff Portland Roger Bunker Woolwich daughter Elizabeth Cox Tucson Arizona two brothers Wesley Chase Madison and Lester Chase Solon three sisters Mrs Doris Spear Springfield Mass Mrs Lottie Taylor and Mrs Catherine Ward both of Bingham 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral held at Lord Funeral Residence in Skowhegan. Time of service to be announced.
Richard Chapin Morse 71 longtime resident of the Winneganee section of Phippsburg died Friday at Bath Memorial Hospital after three weeks as a patient. Born in Phippsburg to John G and Elizabeth Morse, he lived in the area most of his life. Survived by widow Alice Colson Morse two sons Kenneth of Augusta and Richard of Bath a daughter Elizabeth Morse of Augusta three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Charles H. Felch a former Bath resident who died Friday at Rockland were held at 2 p m Sunday at the Funeral Home of Leslie C Shumway 638 High Street. Rev Craig H Richards pastor of Central Congregational Church officiated Bearers included Harley R Bradley and Albion H Johnson Aubrey F Thorne and Eugene S Lebel Entombment was in the family lot at Oak Grove.
