Washington reports eight month income tax collections exceed early estimates and project a June 30 surplus of at least 100 million dollars. Total 1925 26 income taxes may reach 1.67 billion with potential further reductions in 1926, while Boston Mayor Curley targets funding for the old frigate Constitution preservation aided by schoolchildren if needed.

There was 2 good attendance at the whist party April 15 given by Pine Tree Circle 2 Pool A in Grand Army hall. The committee plans the 20th anniversary on May 14 with Mrs Edward Coyle as chairwoman assisted by several members. First prizes went to Mrs Winifred Melnnis and George Dall. Next party to be held in Foresters hall in two weeks.
George T. Applegate sold the Hotel Phoenix to John J. Burke of Roxbury Massachusetts who plans new management and to restore the hotel to its former reputation. Burke is attached to the Maine squad of the United States Internal Revenue department with headquarters on last fall from Mrs. Belle Welch and son Ray Welch.
Believed to be the largest seran book in the world is held by W. H. Martin of Tacoma Washington. The pages measure 15 feet long and 80 inches wide. The 54th page has been completed. Pictures and news items on all subjects are preserved.
In a Friday assembly Charles R. Oliver presented gold basketballs to the Marse high lettermen. Recipients included captain George Dow and teammates George Wotton, George McMann, Donald Wilson, Ellery Doyle, Alfred Gannon, Reddington Reed. Coach Ray mond V. Hayward and referee Allan Spear also received gold balls and chain. Miss Martha Bates received a baton from Oliver.
Hough J. Chisholm of Portland has sold the yacht Arras to Harry K. Noyes of Boston. The vessel rests at Neponset Mass for a cruise prep by the new owner. Built at Bath Iron Works and launched May 17 1924 Arras is 127 feet long 18 feet beam 10 ft 4 inches depth and 145 tons displacement. steel built. Chester Colby former chief engineer has left the yacht at Neponset and returned home.
The Morse high girls basketball squad honored with a banquet and praised for swift ball handling and team play. Capt Marion Wagner, Leela Ward, Luella McDonald, Madeline Moore, Dorothy Breton and Dorothy Donnell highlighted as leaders. 22 players contributed to a top season. Manager Miss Elizabeth Coombs noted for securing the largest cash balance in school history and thanks extended to patrons including Miss Martha Bates and Morse band.

Mr and Mrs William M Temple and daughter Mary from Portsmouth New Hampshire visited Sunday. They came by automobile with Mr and Mrs John G Haskell and Arthur Lemont who were home for the weekend to see her parents Mr and Mrs G A Cahill of 717 Middle Street.
