A Rotary or service group considers creating safe convenient parking for Bath visitors. A survey of vacant lots is urged to identify usable space with spring as a prompt to proceed, report results, and implement parking arrangements to attract motorists and increase town visits.
Reports note Bath and vicinity suffered minimal winter and spring storms, contrasted with heavier snow in Massachusetts and Portland. The area boasts unusually few outdoor work weather-related absences and a calm post office postmaster policy under the new administration. Gov Brann orders a $12,000 reduction in Highway Police expenditures with a one day per week unpaid cut, and secretary of state staff to lose $9,000 in the last fiscal quarter. Jacob Verheus 36 Bedford street contractor returned from a viaje to Den Helder and Ymuiden Oost meeting his father sister and his sister in Johannesburg South Africa after five years. He visited Bath girl Mrs Jan T P Byhouwer and discussed Holland farming plans and labor conditions noting low cost of living and unemployment. He observed the 18 mile dike across the Zuyder Zee and new reclaimed land aiding farm development. Verheus reopened his Marion street shop upon return.
The New England Division of the American Nurses Association schedules a three day convention in Manchester New Hampshire May 1 2 3. Prominent speakers include Edith Soule and Ellen Daley with roles in Maine Massachusetts and Rockland. An all day Public Health Nursing Boards conference is set for May 2 plus round tables on Nursing Public Health Social and Mental Hygiene and Private Duty.
The Committee installed six old English hunting aquatints in Moulton Union with five in the main dining room and one above the mantle in the faculty dining room. Purchased from Dunthorne of Kennebunk and Washington, the prints are over a century old as the brown spots indicate. Funds came from the James Phinney Baxter bequest for art in memory of Professor Henry L. Johnson 74.
Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles explains how reaction time and braking distance grow with speed. At 30 mph a car travels about 80 feet before stopping. at 60 mph the stopping distance rises to about 271 feet, expanding the danger zone and stressing careful driving and clear road sightlines especially at night.
A Ford sedan left in Woolwich was traced to Thomaston owner A. H. Robinson. Two Rockland boys Freeman Russell Campbell admitted stealing the car in Rockland Tuesday night and abandoning it in Woolwich. Police chased them to Portland, where they were returned to Rockland. Misses Carolyn S. and Sarah D. Varney visited the city from Wiscasset.
Edward L. Gaudreau violinist and Francis L. McPherson pianist presented a charming program before residents and guests at the Old Ladies Home last Wednesday. Performances included Mendelssohn Concerto movements, Nevin Kreisler Rosary, Zigeunerweisen, Schumann Liebesfreud, Cadman To a Comedian, Wagner The Music of Bremen, and Bendel The Waughtes of Bremen.
A Maine Central Boston to Bath and Rockland train was delayed about an hour Thursday afternoon due to a storm affecting traffic west of Portland. Rain and snow slowed wire service between Bath Brunswick and Portland. Western Union and Postal Telegraph officials reported intermittent troubles but messages moved through. Popham Beach Coast Guard noted a heavy sea and blinding snow but tides remained below cottage risk.
Prof and Mrs Maurice C Avery and their son left Bath for Williamstown Mass but turned back at Biddeford due to severe road conditions. Portland had slushy streets while Biddeford reported 22 inches of snow and impassable roads with late snow plows. Mrs Avery called the scene “like a different world altogether.”

At a Colonel Dummer Sewall chapter DAR gathering Mrs. Harry E. sing presented an account of The American Creed as printed by Potomac Savings Bank. The piece traces the creed’s origin from 1916 1917 to William Tyler Page who authored the creed and bought Liberty bonds for stars like Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin in 1918. The Creed declares belief in a government of the people by the people for the people and duties to love support obey respect and defend the nation.

Howard and wife at Dover-Foxcroft extends to family and friends.
Walter H. Maynard of Maynard's Camps Rockwood visited Augusta to see his daughter Phyllis Maynard. He spent the winter in Florida reporting tarpon up to 125 pounds Jewfish up to 300 pounds blue fish mackerel sea bass and large sharks. He plans to open Moose River camps on May 1 with good prospects for the 1933 season.
