A large grass and brush fire near Phippsburg Center swept over half a mile and menaced two homes as Bath firemen Coast Guardsmen from Popham and volunteers fought the flames. Mrs Young and Mrs Scott saved the Young house with water and buckets. Fire crews used portable pumps and booster tanks, halting the spread near the library despite high winds.
