State aid hospital funding debated amid rising costs

The 84th Legislature reviewed the Mitchell bill and a new State Department of Hospital Aid proposed to raise daily care rates from 2.50 to 3.50, with a 50 50 split of costs between towns and the state. Proponents argue this would reduce deficits, while preserving hospital standards, and shift burden from private drives to public funding.
