Mrs. Wm Worthman and children visited Seward relatives after arriving from Nebraska. E R Adams of Adams Curtis Shoe Co left for a shoe selling trip on Monday.
William F Golden will give a grand exhibition in St Clair's hall on Saturday January 18. The display promises the finest penmanship shown to the public featuring a large eight by five foot writing case. Batesville public school children and teachers are invited to attend before the world exposition in St Louis. Admission is 10 cents. Doors open at six.
Martin Benz visited Cincinnati Sunday. Peter Grow of Newpoint came Tuesday noon on business. Charley Morrow of the Tri County Greeting Sunman was in town Wednesday. Hank Schroeder is slowly recovering from the grip. Gelvin and Goyert trip to Lincolnville to stay rest of week. Keepsile Bros lay cement walks with estimates. Mrs Louis Schlosser returned from Kirksville Mo to Batesville to visit kin and take care of affairs.
The February consignment from Butterick Patterns includes the Gibson waist among novelties, along with long coats capes and ladies skirts showing the popular short flounces. Patrons are urged to visit the pattern department.
August Koch and family of Hancock Iowa returned home Wednesday after a three week visit with relatives. Koch notes corn prices have risen from six cents a bushel six years ago to sixty cents now, affecting cattle feeding costs this winter. He cites scarcity and better market conditions for hogs and cattle as the main reasons.
News from Kingston Canada reports the death of Mrs. Thos. Murphy aged 77 of Brewer's Mills. She immigrated from Ireland at 17 and lived in Pittsburg township for over 50 years. Survived by husband five sons and three daughters. Funeral at the Roman Catholic church in Brewer's Mills.
Community notes announce a boy born to J. H. Connelley and wife of Milan on Sunday night January 12. Local business and shopping promos include Wessel's fish and a life-size crayon portrait offer with every ten dollars spent. Adams & Curtis Shoe Co. discusses prospects and machinery investment. Rev Freudenreich traveled to Cincinnati on Tuesday. Mrs Jos Luesse has been seriously ill for several days. August Franke of Spades visited town Tuesday morning. Mrs John Bohner and daughter in law Mrs Wm Bohner visited at Spades last Friday.
Rev. Kessens of St. Marys Ohio spent Tuesday night in Oldenburg and returned home Wednesday. A F Woerdemann traveled to Greensburg last Friday to inspect insurance options and may move there soon to make Greensburg his home.

Miss Ella Smith of Columbus Indiana spent a few days in town visiting the Misses Press and other friends and returned home Tuesday morning.
At his home on State Road east of Schutter's Corner on Tuesday night at 11 o clock, Frank Gander brother of George Gander of this place, died. The remains will be buried at St. Pius church today.
The third entertainment in the Star Lecture Course will unfold at St. Clair's hall on Thursday night January 16. Bruce Sackett, a leading cartoonist of the day, will present his humorous pictures to please all. Admission is 2 cents.

The Batesville District Fair Association held its annual stockholders meeting at the town hall last Saturday and re elected most of the old board to serve the coming year.
The Franklin Township Republican convention on January 11 drew strong attendance and noted harmony. Delegates chosen for district and county conventions include C. C. Ruble, Ed Powell, Wm. Mahler, Chas. Stevenson, and T. R. Veary. Resolutions praised McKinley’s death by an anarchist, approved Roosevelt’s office appointments, and supported free rural delivery and Ripley county’s return to the party after 1902.
