A string of short notes records people visiting or traveling this week. William Weigel and George Bessler went to Spades for business while Fred Hackman returns to Shelbyville to work. Miss Lena and Anna Luttmiller visit Morris, Indiana, as A W Romweber travels to Grand Rapids for the Furniture Manufacturers Convention.
The Blue Ribbon Club plans a dance at St Clair's hall this Saturday night January 12 with public invitation. The Big Four continues road survey work in the area with three surveyors and two Batesville youths checking routes. Batesville public schools under Prof. Austin are praised as among the best in the country.
Readers are urged to subscribe to the Tribune for 1.25 dollars in advance and receive the Cincinnati Gazette for one year. The ad notes two papers for the price of one with delivery to separate addresses and a starting date of January 1, 1902.
Scattered notes show social visits and travels: E L Beer of Sunman in town Saturday, A J Nusbaumer to Versailles on business, Andrew Benz to Cincinnati for a day, August Goyert of Greensburg on business, Mr Roell of Oldenburg to Waldron, Mrs J W Henry and daughter visiting Newpoint, Ralph Timmerman visiting a friend at Newpoint. Classified ad notes offer a Pearl street dwelling for sale via Chas Meyer's store. Judge David Meyers of Greensburg visits to publish the franchise ordinance.
If times hold as in 190, Batesville with booming factories and an upcoming electric road, plus anticipated Big Four Route improvements, should prosper and grow like never before, bringing new work and opportunity.
Farmer offers a large stock of Tiger and Sadler riding and walking cultivators corn and wheat drills and other farming tools. Call if you are considering a purchase. John H This.
But terick Patterns introduces the Gibson Waist among the February consignment items. The collection features long coats capes and ladies skirts with popular short flounces. Patrons are encouraged to visit the pattern department.
Republican meetings set for January 11 in Batesville Napoleon and Spades to elect delegates and officials for the North Vernon district convention on January 15 1902. Leaders include Geo H Govert Lafayette T Cox and Committee members.
Versailles is now lit with electric lights and the inhabitants are delighted. Greeman Bros. did more business this year, totaling $124,000. Other items note visits and trips by local residents including Miss Mabel Hall, Miss Maude Moore, and Mrs. Geo. Ray.
Gussie Hackman traveled to South Bend Indiana on Wednesday to attend school. His father A A Hackman accompanied him as far as Indianapolis.
H. H. Kramer touts Heinz prepared mince meat as a flavor only skilled housewives approach and that it saves time and worry. The Schafer gallery has been crowded with work all fall with three men working daily, often late into the night, yet piling up despite their efforts.

Miss Cleo Starks visited relatives near Newpoint last week, returning Sunday. Harry Canfield went to Grand Rapids Sunday to represent Western Furniture Co. in that place. Harry Greves of Cincinnati visited Tuesday for A. Jansen & Co. grocers. John H. Steinforth and wife near Spades were in town Tuesday and renewed their Tribune subscription. Rev. Evon Hahman of St John’s Huntersville preached at Rev. Freudenreich's St Mark's pulpit Sunday night. Mrs. George Wuest returned to Sunman Monday after visiting her daughter Mrs. Mike Meister here. All youngsters with skates using suburban ponds when ice favorable.
Hermano Bruus of Sunman visited on Wednesday. Frank Gehring traveled to Cincinnati on business Tuesday morning. John Meyer attended commissioners court at Versailles this week. FOR SALE a one horse survey in first class condition. Call on A F Woerdemann. Reverend Flantz of St Pauls church Cross Roads fell Wednesday injuring his arm. Miss Anna and Miss Minnie Oswald of Cincinnati visited here over Sunday. Mrs Donald McCallum and son Neil visited Linconville Thursday to see her relatives. Otto Nickel spent holidays here then left for Indianapolis Monday. Charles Baas of Brooklyn New York visited his brother G A Baas Batesville then returned home. Louis Oser and wife children returned from Cincinnati Monday. Lizzie Luers returned from Indianapolis after five months to stay with her parents Fred and wife near Napoleon.
Our factories have had a very successful year with all units showing strong performance. Every factory can be gratified by its annual report as they collectively mark a notably prosperous period.
Batesville Oriental frater nity members staged a humorous night out starting at the K of P hall. They paraded through town with a live goat and lanterns, abducting several men for mock initiation then awarding Louis Diehl the post of G P W. A supper followed and plans were set for a Feb 1 parade with uniform dress and more curiosities.
Fred Spade of Indianapolis, who has been transacting business in Cincinnati, came here Wednesday evening to visit his cousin George A Baas and will return to Cincinnati Thursday.
Train irregularity disrupts mail delivery as late trains miss connections and require holding incoming mail until alternate routes or connections can be arranged. This causes delays and logistical complications for processing and routing mail.
Stockholders of the Batesville District Fair Association will hold their annual meeting on Saturday January 11 1902 to elect officers and transact such business as may come before the meeting J J Putman President F Walman Secretary.
Some of the Big Four surveyors see a prospect of tunneling the Batesville road as an open tunnel with bridges at street crossings. It would aid fast through trains but hinder freight handling. Likely not to occur in our time.
The Big Four surveyed three Batesville routes for a new road. One runs south near the fair grounds, another north near Adams & Curtis shoe factory, and a center route past the depot to Huntersville with a Pearl street crossing. costs range from thirty thousand to fifty thousand dollars. Center route could require a 16 foot deep trench with five foot elevated bridges. Decisions expected soon with changes likely.
Bruce Sackett, a leading cartoonist, will headline the third Star Lecture Course event at St. Clair's hall on Thursday night, January 16. His humorous drawings are expected to entertain all audiences. Admission is 25 cents.
The post office warns letters addressed to Bessie Keen,J Keen Emma Keen Edwin Lafary and D McCautium P M will be sent to the dead letter office in Washington D C if not called for by January 30 1902.

Dr. Gibson reports a clash between two horses this week. One horse, sharp shod, kicked the other on both hips, causing cut gashes in each leg. One wound required 9 stitches and the other 14.
Miss Mertie Minger daughter of Recorder Johan Minger died at home in Versailles on Sunday January 5 after several months battling rheumatism. The death ends a brief illness that afflicted the young girl.
Carman representing R. O. McOunt Electric Manufacturing of Indianapolis sold the Electric Light Co. a new 1,300 light dynamo this week. It will be installed in 30 to 45 days along with extra wiring to provide brighter and steadier illumination than before.
