First Jury Term Opens With Rape Case In Wyomings Washakie County

Judge Metz presides the first county term in the new courthouse. State attorney Harkins of Worland and Hartigan of Basin represent the State in the rape case State of Wyoming vs Boyd Mills from Washakie county No change of venue. Jury panel announced. Case expected to last today. Also report on gauze bandages bed side kits and shirts being prepared for refugees with Woman's Club day activities.

Attorney General to Speak for Fourth Liberty Bond Drive

D A Preston will speak at the Rex theatre Basin tomorrow Saturday at 5 pm on the Fourth Liberty Loan. Ex Governor Brooks will speak in Lovell and E Richard Shipp will speak in Greybull this will formally open the county bond campaign. Carl Wilson and Al Borden visited Worland last Saturday for a telephone line project between Worland and Nowood.

BELGIAN RELIEF DRIVE SEEKS FIVE THOUSAND TONS OF CLOTHING

J W Alexander left Wednesday for Billings to meet a daughter en route from Pennsylvania. They plan to visit relatives in Thermopolis before traveling to Basin.

Governor Carlson to Speak in Basin on October 2

Ex Governor A Carlson of Colorado will address Basin on Wednesday evening October 2. He is billed as a leading western speaker and the event promises a strong patriotic address advocating prohibition of the liquor traffic.

Woman's Club Meeting Plans Cheyenne State Federation Delegates

The Cheyenne Woman's Club met at the Red Cross work room in the courthouse on Wednesday. They approved minutes, discussed sending delegates to the state federation in Cheyenne October 2 3 and 4, and named both delegates and alternates. A drive for dry Wyoming and Red Cross work dominated the afternoon, with a library courtesy shift for the Presbyterian Synod.

Big Horn County prepares for the Fourth Liberty Loan with a Sept 25 start and Oct 19 close. Meetings chaired by D L Carr set plans. apportionment is $321,250 with installments allowed. County pledge urged. local officials promise to exceed quotas and support the war effort. Liberty Day registration set for Oct 5 with polling sites across Lovell, Greybull, Basin, and surrounding towns.

Judge Burgess of Sheridan heard the injunction case L. R. Ewart et al versus A. M. Barringer et al over Crystal creek oil placer locations. Hartigan Durham Lenabaugh defended plaintiffs, Zaring West for defense. Hearing extended to Wednesday with many witnesses. judge rules for plaintiffs and makes the injunction permanent. Possible appeal not known.
