Big Horn County tops ribbons at the state fair led by Col May and assistants. The county earned 727 dollars in prize money, more blue ribbons than any other two counties, and swept numerous agricultural and horticultural classes including top prizes for sugar beets beans apples plums and fruit displays.
A panel of jurors is drawn to appear in Basin district court at 2 p m on September 25. Visitors who attended the state fair praised Anson Higby for arranging entertainment in Douglas Uptown. A varied night program added greatly to amusement and made fair visitors’ stay a continuous round of pleasure.

Cal Stewart and company performed at the Rex on Wednesday evening. The show was excellent but admission at $1 kept away potential attendees. Stewart is noted as the original phonograph man and among Edison’s first eight record-makers.
Rev and Mrs R M Jones announce the return of Rev Jones to the parish for another year after attending the Methodist conference in Torrington. Basin residents will be pleased with the decision and welcome his continued leadership.
The term at Basin opens September 26 with criminal cases from Washakie and Big Horn counties. Cases include State v McDade murder and State v Boyd Mills rape, plus Orr grand larceny, Stark burglary, Sullivan and Bischoff burglary, Spence rape. Grey Bull gambling trials begin October 2. Civil cases Rolofson v Farlow damages, Wegner and Buehner v Denver Mercantile Co money, Omaha Alfalfa Milling Co v Threet Bros money, Schof v Shoemaker money, Oct 3-6. Jury to report September 25.
At the Grand Chapter session in Laramie Mrs. Bertha VanDevender was elected Grand Conductress. Elected for the next year were Grand Matron Cora Adams of Sheridan, Grand Patron Sumner Miller of Pine Bluff, Grand Associate Matron Sara Harris of Laramie, Grand Associate Patron A. Underwood of Cheyenne, Grand Secretary Inez M. Robinson of Cheyenne, Grand Treasurer Townsend of Casper, and Grand Associate Conductress Viola Mecsung of Casper.
In district court last Monday Susie Holford was granted a divorce from Virgil Holford on desertion and non support grounds. custody of their minor child Russell Beart was awarded to Susie Holford.
The Big Horn county committee chaired by Thos M Hyde plans the fourth Liberty Loan drive with a September 28 start date and a Basin meeting on September 21. Dr Grace Raymond Hebard is slated for a state tour to boost the drive, with speakers from across Wyoming. The state fair, now in its 11th annual edition, is hailed as the largest and most successful ever, with Big Horn county praised for its prominent displays and loyalty to the state fair.
Sheriff Wick tracked August Lapper or related suspect after a robbery at a dude ranch and horse theft in Sheridan County. Local papers show the man had recently left Montana penitentiary and was deemed a bad man there. Under Sheriff J Kirby of Sheridan arrived with the prisoner after locating him at the Little Horn head.
The Washington DC war industries board orders all newspapers to discontinue subscriptions not paid in advance. The Republican must notify subscribers to remit prior to continuing service, prompting readers to pay ahead to maintain their subscriptions.
The Basin schools opened last Monday with 298 students and 18 new pupils on Tuesday and Wednesday for a total of 316. Grades are listed from first through senior high, with primary congestion leading to a plan dividing classes into nine to twelve and one to four sessions. The board approved a higher salary for the primary teacher and canceled the French course while adding shorthand and typewriting, with 17 students enrolled and machines being arranged.
District manager M. C. Crouch of Continental Supply Co Cas per visited Basin on Tuesday and left that evening for Thermopolis with H. B. Kelley, manager of the local store.
Justice Bonwell united P. H. McCormick of Great Falls Montana and Miss Alice Alberta Kirckpatrick of Cascade Montana in marriage at his residence last Saturday afternoon. The ceremony proceeded quietly with family and friends in attendance.
F L Tolman of Tensleep arrived in town on Monday and departed that afternoon for South Omaha with nine thousand head of sheep, shipping from Manderson.
Miss Kathleen O'Neil came back last Friday after a six week visit in Denver with her sister Mrs Homer T. Lamb.

Mrs H Martindale collapsed from gasoline fumes while cleaning near the tailor shop. She was taken to Susie Holford's home for attention and Dr Smith reports she is greatly improved.
