The Delphian Chapter met Monday evening at the library to discuss The Land of the Pyramids. Officers elected include President Mrs. W. B. Hartigan and Vice President Mrs. N. J. Long. charter members list 17 names.
Arrangements are being completed between the war department the post office department and the American Red Cross to provide the men of the expeditionary forces with Christmas parcels. Men overseas will forward parcels through these channels and aid in delivering cheer.
Families will authorize shipments of parcels with contents provided by the families. Rei Crosa will supply standard cartons and inspect wrap and deliver completed parcels to postal authorities. Final arrangements are being worked out with chapters to be advised through Are Rays Mrs R B Landfair Sec Home Service Sec ARC.
At the Rex last Saturday evening State Attorney General D. A. Preston opened the Fourth Liberty Loan drive with a patriotic address. He reviewed war activities and the necessity for over subscribing this loan, which will mean the winning of the war. His address was masterly and well received by a large audience.
Chas. Fairfield of Butte Mont stopped over en route home from Lander. He visited judge James S. Patten, his former teacher in Lander, marking their first meeting in forty years.
Red Cross fund raiser set for October fifth at Hyattville to support Liberty Loan day. Community invited to attend the dance and subscribe to the war effort during the event.
The home guards elected C. W. G. Dodge as captain, R. P. Pearson as first lieutenant, and Wm. C. May as second lieutenant. Commander West will not serve, citing war and relief duties, while urging 18 to 45 year olds to join as arms arrive. Drilling on Main Street may be arranged with town council approval.
John McIntosh and his wife and mother of Burlington hosted visitors from Utah. Mrs Gertrude Johnson and Mrs Mary McIntosh, sister of Mrs McIntosh, traveled to Burlington for a visit and departed the same day for their homeuet.
The Big Horn County Poultry association plans its quarterly meeting at Shell on Saturday October 12 at 2 o clock in the afternoon. Grace Mott serves as secretary.
Peter Sill, a Thermopolis merchant, visited town this week and predicted big Republican support in the region with Carey especially popular among voters.
Mrs. R. J. Tilton underwent a serious operation at Basin hospital on Tuesday performed by Dr. M. H. Smith. She recovered nicely and is reported this morning as on the road to speedy recovery. Attorney L. A. Bowman of Lowell attended the bar meeting here on Wednesday.
Ex-Governor Carlson of Colorado spoke to a large crowd at the Rex under Anti-Saloon League auspices. He urged Liberty Loan subscriptions, reviewed Colorado’s prohibition impact, urged support for a constitutional amendment, and claimed prohibition can improve Wyoming as it did Colorado.
The Bar Association of the Fifth Judicial District met in Basin with new members Frank C. Little Edward E. Ellis Thos C Marshall H C Brome J H Van Horn and elected C A Zaring president and Frank C Little secretary treasurer A banquet followed then a county building operations report urged to inform the War Industries Board about location builder nature and cost of projects to secure needed permits
The Red Cross asks every family across the Mountain Division to donate at least one item. Requested sizes include bath towels 19 by 38 inches hand towels 18 by 30 inches handkerchiefs 17 by 18 inches and sheets 62 by 100 inches of unbleached muslin. Deliver to the Red Cross room by Saturday afternoon. Mrs. T. K. Bishop, Chairman.
A line of friends gathered at the depot to bid farewell as the group prepared to depart, marking a heartfelt sendoff for those leaving.
Chas Blynn of St. Joe visited town Wednesday for medical care after his right hand was caught in a threshing machine nearly crushing the thumb. Dr M H Smith treated the injury and Charley is expected to resume threshing soon.

C R Heisler of the Ohio Oil Co fell ill last Tuesday while traveling to Grass Creek. He is at home under Dr Smith care and resting easy. Doctors expect a quick recovery, with release possible in a few days.
Burroughs Adding Machine Co. head inspector L. G. Thomasson visited Billings yesterday on a business trip. A brief admonition suggested buying bonds as a patriotic gesture.
A riot call to the sheriff describes a mob forming at Greybull as principal L. B. Strachan whipped a boy named Wilson with a bridle rein. Strachan, now charged before Judge Harding, has left town amid local efforts to prevent further violence.
