A Basin driller for C E Stubbs of Denver opened a major Greybull oil well on Lincoln Townsite land, 640 acres. The sand tapped at 071 feet produced quickly, spouting oil up to 75 feet high at times. Early estimates place potential output at 200 to 400 barrels per day, with high quality oil 48 to 50 specific gravity.
A district court suit in Hot Springs County seeks to cancel a lease on Littlejolu lands near Crass Creek Melis affecting 480 deeded acres. W N Valentine held an early lease to attract oil. after failure to drill the rent was paid and a later lease emerged by A N Whiting who transferred it, now challenged as part of the action. The case's outcome could prove financially significant for oil rights holders.
