Mayor R. B. West and the town council adopted a city manager plan to economize and reduce operating costs. Edgar L. Beard was appointed to assume duties the first of the month, with regular hours at the treasurer's office and other tasks previously handled by two or three employees. If successful, the plan may become permanent.
The state highway commission will maintain the Yellowstone route from Cheyenne to Yellowstone Park with weekly road patrols and prompt repairs. A tractor and grader will prep Copper Mountain and Bird's Eye Pass areas within two weeks to improve surface quality for travelers.
Mrs Elizabeth Gotwals of Medicine Lodge was brought to Basin hospital Wednesday evening for care and constant attention by physicians. She arrived with her son Claude and was escorted by Dr Van Slyke.
Word was received this week that Bishop McGovern will visit the local Catholic church on June 16. This marks his first Basin visit in five years and a record attendance is anticipated at the services. An announcment will follow on the service hour.
The program lists procession order including town band old veterans American Legion cavalry cadets local clergy and mayor and council among others. The ceremony includes grand Army ceremony decoration prayer by Rev Wardlaw addresses by Mayor R B West and Mr Hayes scripture hymn benediction and related passages. Mayor West returned from Billings with his daughters Helen and Margaret en route to Missoula for a prolonged visit with their aunt.
In Greybull last Sunday the Basinball team defeated the town club 6 to 3 in a tight opener. Bowler made standout catches and hit a home run to center field while Krajicek struck out 16. The crowd enjoyed the amateur matchup and slated a return soon.
The Big Horn Basin Realty Association gathered in Lowell last Monday for a general discussion on effective advertising of Basin country. They selected a delegate to attend the national meeting in Kansas City next month. Attending were RK. RK, Ferris, W. W. Murphy, G. Newton, and Ben Hensel, who reported a very good meeting. The Lowell Commercial Club hosted a luncheon for the visitors.
Directors chose James Keatchie as president and Wm Gibson as treasurer. Col W H May will assist as secretary alongside his fair duties. The club approved a rule to route all funds through the treasurer via signed orders by president and secretary. Next meeting will consider a formal secretary plan and a bigger membership drive.
O A Leavitt has purchased the Rex theatre from Wm E Schmelling of Scotts Bluff Neb. He is remodeling the interior and building a fire proof projection room while redecorating to present a better appearance than before. Nels Hokanson will stay on briefly, and Leavitt aims to offer a strong selection of films when doors reopen Sunday night.
Basin Wyoming Mayor Raymond B. West proclaims the forenoon of May 29 1920 a half holiday to honor fallen soldiers. Citizens urged to join Grand Army of the Republic ceremonies at the camping ground and pay tribute in the spirit of Memorial Day on the eve of Sunday May 30 1920.
Ernest L. Agee and Miss Bery Hoel were married by Rev. R. M. Jones in a noon ceremony with an impressive ring rite. The couple, both well known locally, will reside at the groom’s ranch near Burlington after June 10.
Saturday at 9:30 a.m. a procession from the Chamber of Commerce will carry old veterans to the cemetery to decorate graves. Mayor Weat will speak and the American Legion will be represented by a speaker. The town band will lead. stores close until noon as organizations are urged to attend.
On Sunday at high noon at St Phillips Catholic church the wedding of Thomas Relch and Julian Reichter occurred with Rev. Pather Endres officiating. The groom is employed by Great Western Sugar Co at the Montgomery ranch and the couple will immediately begin housekeeping.
Active work by the new city administration on Basin streets has commenced. In a few days all streets will be placed in good condition and the improvements will enhance the town's appearance this summer.
Col W H May announces the fair board has approved a building on the grounds. The structure, built of gap blocks, will house the fine arts and floral exhibits and is the first in a series of permanent buildings planned for the fair. Next year another building may follow for remaining exhibits.
Mr and Mrs Chas Billips of Cattlesburg Kentucky announce the marriage of their daughter Hazel Irene to Cameron Welch. The couple will reside in Casper Wyoming after July 1. Cameron lived in Basin for years and has many friends offering congratulations.
J C Williams of Standard Chautauqua arrives to finalize July 9 to 14 events. The lineup includes Lindsay Frost company Spanish Girls orchestra Cheney Concert Co Arthur K Peck Szecho Slovak band Jaro slav Cimera trombone soloist Lyric Male quartette Armageddon lecture by John Temple Graves Wales Chautauqua Players Heart of a Nation lecture Dr Paul Ivey three act play Rejuvenation with New York cast and scenery. The series is billed as the best locally and should attract many visitors.
The Basin State Bank building received a new front yesterday and construction will begin immediately. Bank fixtures have been shipped and should arrive by completion. The redesign promises a modern interior once finished.
Business men from the east side of Fourth street challenge a local diamond game next Friday afternoon. Two strong teams will be selected by then. In Casper last Sunday the Grey Bull refinery team beat Casper 2 to 1 with Smith homering. On Monday Casper defeated Greybull 11 to ?.
Report notes Monday designated as a legal holiday affecting bankers and lawyers with a ball game scheduled that day.
The lawyers and bankers baseball clash is rescheduled for next Monday afternoon after both sides trade barbs about practice and holidays. Banter centers on Bolton as pinch hitter, Wise backers, and a dig at historic references, with scouts and law officials weighing in on slides and ethics.
