Reports say several new wells will be brought in before month end. Good drillers on the Torchlight claim completed a second well late last night, reportedly better than the first, with a shot rising fifty feet. The Burlington ball team defeated Basin 9 to 4 at the Basin ball park last Sunday. Umpire Lou Blakesley officiated. Lineup lists Nicholeon catching, Myers at short, Kernlif at first, MclIntosh pitching for Burlington while Basin lineup includes Randall at left, A Smith in right, Coons in center and Derby pitching.
Manager Smith of Acme Amusement says starting tomorrow night the company will resume regular Saturday night dances after the picture shows. Tickets are 10 cents per dance and the dances will continue indefinitely. Complete changes of program at the picture shows on Saturday and Sunday evenings feature many attractions.
Under election law candidates may begin petition circulation May 28 and have sixty days to file with the county clerk. Petitions must be filed at least 20 days before primaries. The last filing day is July 28 and primaries are August 18.
J W Welsh holds the contract to build a new concrete sidewalk on Sixth street. W M Col ling J P Arnott and C A Zaring have ordered walks for their properties and Welsh expects to persuade nearly all block owners to join. He promises dependable work and a good walk for property owners.
W A Robb has returned from Colorado and taken over the Basin Delicatessen to run the business in the future. Locals welcome the Robbs back to Basin and wish them a successful season and permanent residence. The Woman’s club meets next Wednesday afternoon May 13 in Fraternity hall lodge rooms to discuss Music and Drama with committee Mia G A Harris chairing and Mesdames Arnue ling Coons Albone Hartigan Hyde.
A telegram from Cheyenne states Harry L. Wise of Basin has been elected one of two delegates from the state to the Modern Woodmen of America head camp in Toledo on June 16. The honor reflects well on Wise and Basin.
A large town hall gathering last Saturday evening nominated a mayor and two councilmen for the May 12 election. J A Berry was named for mayor, F M Hime and Wm Gibgon for two year terms, J W Gould for one year. The Citizens Ticket was the chosen label and a committee was empowered to fill vacancies and mobilize support.
Governor Joseph M. Carey proclaims May 10 as Mother's Day urging reverence and gifting, with white carnations as emblem and guidance for observance at home church and Sunday school. The notice accompanies theater ads for "The Last Roll Call" and lighthearted film program details.
The post office department requires new bids to carry mail between Basin and Burlington. The contract runs July 1 to June 30, 1915. Bidders must reside on or near the route and should contact Postmaster Gibson.
The annual school election was held at the stone school house last Monday afternoon with broad attendance. J. B. Lempke and W. T. K. Hilshop were elected directors.
Basin won the first game of the season against Shell at the fair grounds 14 to 9 with Lou Blakesley as umpire. Boxed lineups include Shell players Winzenreich Neighty P Loveland Ist Loveland rf Kershner Smith Dickinson Lampman Don McArthur and Basin players Ollwood Smith Ran dall Bristow Coons Smith N Smith Hewitt Earl Denny Taylor. Ben Denny and Myrtle Taylor wed in Le Grande Oregon last week and will live in Basin. The picture show and dance Wednesday night drew a large crowd. Acme Amusement company donated half receipts to the Episcopal church for sidewalks. The Smith Brothers Orchestra provided music.
The Presbyterian Sunday school will observe Mother's Day next Sunday morning with exercises at 10 o'clock. A male quartet will assist with the program.
The Wyoming University bulletin is a bimonthly pamphlet detailing university departments and activities. It notes a strong engineering program with graduates securing positions in Denver plants and mentions a debate with Denver University on the minimum wage, where Wyoming defended the negative side.

Washington May 5 Following a lengthy committee review a bill to govern disposition of coal oil gas phosphate and sodium lands in the United States is introduced It proposes tract divisions of forty acres up to 2560 with leases issued by the secretary of the interior under fixed royalty rates Minimum royalties are set and leases may run up to twenty years Municipalities may obtain permits for coal use Local mining rights include prospecting permits of 640 acres and drilling timelines with monument postings for filing preference rights and potential patents after discoveries.
