Local boosters face a $900 contract to sell season tickets for a Chautauqua program. If they fail to sell enough tickets they pay the difference, risking cancellation next year. The event features Hann’s Jublee Singers, Lotus Quintette Club, Ye Olde New England Choir, readings, and plays.
The Liberty club of Thermopolis invites guests to a smoker and banquet in Thermopolis on July 10 to honor the state highway commission and Wind River Canyon project supporters. Governor Carey is expected to speak as a principal guest.
The war film Flashes of Action shown Monday night at the Rex under the local post American Legion drew two full houses. The picture follows the dough boy from departure on the great adventure through to his return home and the local post netted a neat sum from the event.
Mrs. Elsie Hoel picked the first ripe tomato of the season from her Barnum variety garden last Friday. It ripened four days earlier than last year when the first ripe tomato was picked on June 27.
George M. Booth and his son Hamilton arrived from Long Beach California by car via Idaho Utah and the park. Booth is in town on business and to reconnect with longtime friends, recalling his years running the Antlers hotel locally.
C. S. Hill state immigration commissioner and sugar industry figures from Wyoming and Colorado visited the Greybull reservoir site on Wednesday. Bond firm representatives from Bosworth Chanute & Co of Denver examined the project before bidding on bonds. Sugar executives examined land suitability for sugar beets with plans to build a factory once the reservoir project ends.
Manager Martin announces the film The Fighting Shepherdess will be shown at Rex theater at noon and again in the evening on July 6. Adapted from Caroline Lockhart novel set in Cody with scenes tied to the Lamplit trial themes referenced locally.

Mayor R B West Loren Pegg and Bill Burroughs fished Medicine Lodge Lake last Saturday to Tuesday and returned with a full trout limit. The sporting editor was remembered with a nice string.
Officers Garland and Collins at Greybull picked up Jack O Keefee said to be wanted at Spokane for stealing a Velie car and also in Montana. Sheriff H P Stanfield of Columbus Montana came in this week and took O Keefee to his home town where he will be tried first.
Wayne Hanlon of the Republican force broke a bone in his ankle during a ball game at Worland last Sunday. The injury occurred in the third inning while sliding into third base, and he will be laid up for a couple of weeks.
Edward J. Lafte and Misa Audery J. Barnes of Greybull obtained a marriage license last Friday and were married that afternoon by Justice Donwell at his residence. The bridal pair were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Twitchell.
A. T. Zinn now drills for C. D. Markham in the Manderson anticline while Drew Prugh visits from Thermopolis. The Markham well 1749-91 reaches about 750 feet with drilling advancing toward the Kimball sand next month. A new wire line is on the Ash and Wyoming project and Tensleep formation may have been penetrated.
The school building addition contract was awarded to Martin & Christensen of Greybull for 21810 dollars. Plumbing went to C. E. Anderson of Basin for 3998.75 dollars. Other bids were listed for both building and plumbing with close totals.
Franklin a former serviceman traveling with a dog and giving lectures was held by Park County sheriff Saturday after a North Dakota robbery and jail break warrant. He matched some details but not all. a habeas corpus writ led to release after witnesses confirmed his story.
Reports describe continued drilling along the Amsden with aim to reach Madison limestone or encounter production. A Hidden Dome well, previously stuck, is back to around 1000 feet. Underreaming at Mercer dome proceeds with drilling soon into the Tenseep formation.
Federal officers acting with Sheriff Wickwire raided a rear Greybull establishment behind the Longley cafe on Wednesday night and arrested W. D. Longey and Joe Carey. They were jailed to await a U S marshal from Cheyenne and federal arraignment with bond possible. Carey already faces a state grand larceny charge.
Shortly after eleven on a Saturday night two Ford cars without lights collided near Renner place south of town. Driver Conrad Stukert sustained a leg fracture below the knee and was most seriously hurt. Other occupants James Louder P R Deal Eli Taylor George Johnson and Tom McManus were shaken and bruised. Dr H T Harris cared for the injured. all but Stukert were expected to recover in days. The cars were pried apart with a crowbar and were wrecks.
Mrs Lillian McRorle departs for Chicago then Utica New York for a visit and will study at a Chicago chiropractic school upon return to Basin. She is accompanied as far as Billings by her son Dr L H MeRorle.
Wrialey's Colts dropped a ball game to Worland 17 to 6 in Worland. Ramsey Rust G Frisby and May teamed for Hasin and Davia and B Voss for Worland in a hard fought clash.
In district court last Friday Judge Metz jailed H. B. Kelley former Continental Supply manager and Lovell resident for contempt in failing to pay alimony and child support after remarriage. He warned he will enforce court orders and may extend punishment if noncompliance continues.
Co Welch of Cowley T W Viney of Shell and Johnnn Weinty of Paint Rock, the members of the board of county commissioners, met this week as a board of equalization. It is understood that less than usual complaints were made by people covering their property assessments.
Manager Frisby has been invited to stage a game at Shell for the Fourth of July celebration. The Colts are likely to play with the Grey Dull team, and locals are expected to attend.
The Elks three day Razzle Dazzle closes with large Basin area attendance. Ball games a big parade initiation vaudeville cabaret dances and other amusements filled three days of fun for the Elks and friends.
A portion of the sixth battalion third division light field artillery under Col C W B Farr traveled through Basin Tuesday en route from Camp Lewis Washington to Fort D A Russell Cheyenne. A special train carried Oasis Temple Shriners from Charlotte NC through Basin Sunday morning returning from the San Francisco meeting and park tour.
Sheriff Wickwire and government agents secured a search warrant for the Mrs. Cc. W. Burns farm near Basin Gardens. They found about 1000 gallons of mash a 85 gallon still sacks of sugar and accessories with W.S. Rope and Sheldon Young arrested. The raid indicates a planned wholesale operation. hearing set for today or tomorrow.
Thelma Gould married J L Mills of Greybull Saturday afternoon at 2 00 pm at the Gould home in a ceremony attended by immediate family and friends. Rev Edwin Bowling officiated. The couple will spend a few days in Thermopolis and then reside in Greybull. The bride, raised here, recently graduated from the local high school and is noted as a skilled musician.
Col. W. H. May, secretary of the chamber of commerce, said Thermopolis will direct all tourist traffic along the Yellow Stone highway through Worland and Basin. Tourists arriving yesterday verified the report and Thermopolis cites help from towns north of Thermopolis in securing the Wind River project.
Manager Frisby has arranged a ball game here Sunday between the Colts and the Denver nine. The Denverites have one of the strongest teams in the north end and a good game can be expected. The game will be called at 3 o clock.
Grey Bull defeated Casper 16 to 6 on Wednesday in a poorly played game. Yesterday afternoon Grey Bull again beat Casper 6 to 4, winning the series two to one.
