Basin prepares for next week’s Chautauqua with Hanns Jubilee Singers concerts and a slate of daily programs through Tuesday. A committee will seek season ticket sales to cover a $900 local credit, with signers bearing the risk. Gate receipts do not count, organizers warn, urging public support to keep Chautauqua active and affordable for another year.
Buffalo senator Frank Lucas visits Basin to discuss regional issues and planned projects with local officials and residents.
In town on Wednesday Mr. Lucas met with many friends and voters in the section. The Republican primary candidate for secretary of state was warmly received and well known in the area.
Roy Tilton, owner of a taxi station, shut his doors and cut telephone wires then, with his wife and crew, left for Tensleep Canyon. The party fished and picnicked at the canyon, returning home with fishing success and a belief that industry should pause on Independence Day.
The Basin town council appointed Bert Brigham as policeman and issued a strict warning to violators of traffic laws. Drivers are urged to slow down and observe licenses, as drunkenness and reckless driving will not be tolerated.
A. J. Livingston of near Ashland City Tennessee says he plans to go door to door to tell people about Tanlac Nadler Drug Co.
Grace Lockhart, long resident of Wyoming and Washington, died June 30 in Wapato after a three week illness from a sudden heart stroke. Born January 22, 1880, in Loveland Colorado, she married Edwin A. Lockhart in Buffalo Wyoming October 31, 1900. Funeral services were at the Methodist Church with Rover Bowling officiating. interment at Mountain View Cemetery. pallbearers listed.
Reports on J. C. Grisinger describe a relapse after painful cuts that required 110 stitches. He has steadily improved in health and is expected to recover fully. He is the Basin area resident and son‑in‑law of Mrs. J. P. Arnott with many friends hoping for his swift return.
The Ashland Wyoming Oil Co drilled in NE% Sec 29 52 93 penetrating Tensleep candé at 3410 feet. Oil of high grade rose quickly, signaling commercial significance. Water access expected within days as the well finishes. Various Ohio and Basin players forecast strong output and ongoing drilling across nearby sections and camps.
Water will again be released into the big ditch on Saturday allowing water users to irrigate gardens soon.
A Wyoming town held a lively Fourth of July celebration in Basin with a morning 15 of the Doin's ball game where Basin beat Greybull's second team, a noon picnic, and an afternoon of horse racing and bronco busting. The event drew most of Basin plus many visitors from Greybull including numerous local residents and families.
Col W H May arranged with Secretary Bollin of the Wyoming state fair commission for the Basin girls saxophone band to perform at the state fair in Douglas as an attraction. A Burlington soccal car will run to Douglas for Basin band girls and others wishing to attend. Judge George Harding of Greybull was in town Wednesday.
