The district court will proceed with civil cases starting Monday June 16 under Judge Metz adjourned to August for jury trials. No jury will be called this term. Civil matters span June 16 to June 24 with multiple cases set including money, equitable relief, foreclosure, attachment and conversion disputes.
Union leaders said the first day of a nationwide telegraph operator strike showed growing support and that the walkout could be complete within three days despite company claims of failure. AP reports from multiple towns indicate business disruption was limited in some regions. President Carlton of Western Union called the turnout about 166 workers, 121 of them operators.
The Commercial Telegraphers' Union of America reports more than a certain number of Western Union employees in Chicago had joined the strike by noon today. The union notes broad participation across the city as work halts.
Last Friday Chas Otis Prill married Miss Elvida Heberling at Justice Bonwell’s residence with relatives present. The groom recently returned from service with the 48th engineers. The bride hails from Warrensburg Missouri and they plan to live in Shell Valley near the groom’s parents. The community offers congratulations and best wishes.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brown born on the 8th expired Wednesday. Funeral services were held that afternoon by Rev. R. M. Jones and interment was in Mount View cemetery. Sympathy of the community extended to the bereaved parents.
Washington report on a two hour hearing before the foreign relations committee reveals how a peace treaty copy moved from Paris to Elihu Root then to Henry P Davison of Morgan Red Cross lines. Davison says it was to clarify Red Cross status and was not used for finance. Root sees no impropriety. Morgan partners J P Morgan and Frank A Van derlip deny ever seeing the copy. The committee adjourned with no date set for further action.
Hyattville hosts a Saturday dance on the 21st to raise funds for road improvements. Returned soldiers are invited as guests of the land office surveyors and no admission is charged for service members in uniform.
Basin wins the home opener over Lovell 11 to 2 as Mayor Frank A Wise starts the pitching for Basin. Spurrier relieves after the first, Ramsey finishes, and Basin pile up twelve hits led by Hawthorne with three singles. Kelley and Friend add two hits each, Deal adds a two base hit in the sixth. Score by innings shows Basin 416 and Lovell 2.
Dad Payne harvested alfalfa in the court house square on Wednesday calling it the heaviest ever grown there. He notes irri gation changes this year and believes lower moisture yields stronger stool. The current crop appears to support his theory about water use and plant vigor.
Governor Carey announces the appointment of Fred L. Crabbe formerly of the anti saloon league as commissioner of prohibition. Crabbe will draw a salary of 3000 dollars and will strive to make the new Wyoming law fully effective.
Constable Albert Fisher of Grey Bull tendered his resignation to the board of county commissioners and it was promptly accepted. It is understood that charges would have been filed if the resignation had not been given.
A. Henderson has purchased the East Side Grocery in Thermopolis and is reported to be doing a thriving business there. His many friends in the vicinity wish him great success.
Eight graduates receive diplomas at Basin High School commencement tonight at the Rex theatre. Speakers include Rev. R. M. Jones and Rev. F. W. Bretnall. Performances feature a quartet, solo, and songs with Mrs. Louis T. Shipley and Supt. F. R. Colthorp presenting diplomas.
Harry H. Hime of Basin State Bank returns from Lost Cabin mines with ore samples showing high gold content. Assays from other claims report strong gold percentages and plans to ship ore to a San Francisco smelter. Butte smelter rejected small high grade runs. Traders see potential for long term profits with a steam shovel and a large ore body.

A. T. Zinn for United Service and Development of Minneapolis brought in a heavy oil well near Himes. It produces about 100 barrels and was drilled within half a mile of numerous other companies that had failed to produce. Ground held under lease from Black Dome and Tensleep oil firms.
I F Dallys, the original prospector of the field, is in Tensleep country this week and is expected to begin extensive drilling operations there now.
Farmers in Antelope and Elk creek districts organize to wage war on grasshoppers. The Great Western Sugar Co will supply lime green parts at cost and molasses free from Lovell factory to aid control. Poison is urged after first hay cutting in alfalfa and other fields to curb growing hoppers.
A Basin welcome home committee forms from local groups to arrange a fitting reception for the first Basin men returning from the war. A meeting is set for next Monday at 7 30 PM in the Chamber of Commerce rooms with discharged soldiers, mothers and friends invited to share ideas.
The nineteenth annual commencement of the Harvard School of Los Angeles California will be held in Los Angeles on June 27. John M Weintz son of Mr and Mrs John Weintz of Paint Rock is among the graduates.
Otto Frisbie led a committee hosting a soldiers dance at Fraternity Hall last Saturday night. Over one hundred couples attended with refreshments and punch served. The veterans said it was one of the best evenings since their return.
Yesterday afternoon Samuel L. Myers and Mrs Georgiana Jones both of Greybull were united in marriage by Justice of the Peace J R Bonwell in the presence of Geo Felkner and Lillie Felkner. The couple left for Greybull to make their home.
Cheyenne architect Dubois has been chosen by the school board to design and supervise the new Basin school building. He will immediately prepare plans and submit them for approval.
Washington reports the senate gridiron over the league of nations will resume with Knox leading a resolution to force a vote on the revised covenant. The foreign relations committee will take up the measure tomorrow morning, aiming for a Friday floor vote before Paris treaty signing. Republican leaders Lodge and Knox push for action while opponents brace for prolonged debate.
George W. Irwin age 37, son of W. S. Irwin of Basin, died in Denver after an operation. He married Louisa Morrison in Basin on February 17. The couple honeymooned in Texas before the operation. Funeral services were held in Thermopolis with burial there. Attending from Basin were Mrs. Frank A. Wise and Misses Lennis, Inez Irwin, and H. E. Wise.
Henry P. Coll formerly a trouble shooter for the local telephone exchange returns from military service at Miles City to take charge here. R. J. O Malley resigns at the start of the month. Coll has many Basin friends who welcome him back.
The banquet remarks by Mr Wilson to the Brazilian president elect in Paris declaring no third term did not lessen Republican opposition to the league of nations. The stance appears party driven rather than partisan, underscoring continued resistance to the pousse-case agenda in the eightiest period.
