J C Stewart cashier of First National Bank sues S J Hardison local E G Lewis Oil manager for 10000 damages claiming Hardison defamed him in the Henning hotel lobby in Casper by accusing him of causing the failure of Big Horn County Bank. The suit stems from bank failure disputes and Malicious statements were alleged to have been made to depositor Muen in Casper. Trial expected at next district term.

Wyoming primaries approach with filing week open

One week remains to file petitions for Wyoming August 22 primaries. Petitions must reach the Secretary of State in Cheyenne within 30 days of the primary. Prospective candidates for state offices have this week and next to decide, while county position filings close August 22 with county clerks.

Fire Destroys Gas Tank During Sheriff Sale Incident

A gasoline storage tank outside the Gohn fire shop ignited during a sheriff's sale on Monday afternoon. Mayor West Mack McKone and Mr Chamberlain helped extinguish the blaze while Dave Johnson hid in the tank and later moved it to his warehouse to prevent additional fires.

Missouri visitors tour park with Cheyenne and Denver plans

Chautauqua Opens Here in Basin Area

The Basin annual Chautauqua opened yesterday in a tent west of the Yellowstone garage with good attendance. Hann’s Jubilee Singers performed both afternoon and evening to satisfaction. Today features former congressman F. F. Ellsworth and the Lotus Quintet. tomorrow Harold Morton Kramer and The Scotch Duggins. Management urges buying season tickets to benefit local financing.

Postmaster Gebhart Sets Out to Count Trout Near Tensleep

Postmaster O T Gebhart departs Sunday for Tensleep to determine the number of trout under a half pound. Tom selects flies for two days and plans to bring some of the Literary Digest ballots to entice the fish to rise and be counted. Mrs Matthews of Hyattville visits Basin this week on her first vacation in about twelve years.

Lee Spurrier welcomes a eight pound baby boy born Wednesday morning. The newborn, two days old, was reportedly on the front porch learning to walk as family and neighbors note the child’s strong health.

Bliss Bayne Tours Hatcheries and Fish Plant Upgrades

Bliss Bayne, chief deputy in the fish and game department, visited Hyattville and Paint Rock lakes as the department notes hot weather delaying fish deliveries. Hyattville produced 1 300 000 fish this season and 100 000 Mackinaw trout will be planted near Cody and possibly in Big Horn lakes. The department aims to stock more streams and lakes over the next two years using pond rearing to produce larger fish for next season.

Bound Over to Federal Court in Liquor Sale Case

U S Marshal Hugh Patton from Cheyenne filed a federal warrant charging Joe Carey and W D Longley with illegal liquor sale. The pair waived preliminary hearing before Greybull officials and were bound over for Cheyenne appearance after a raid by sheriff and federal officers.

Governor Carey Heads North Campaign Tour for renomination

Governor Robert D. Carey plans a three day campaign tour through Basin Greybull and Hyattville with stops at the state fish hatchery and community meetings. He aims to highlight his three and a half year record and seeks renomination based on accomplishments as he prepares for Hoback canyon festivities and stops in Cody Powell and Lovell.

Gohn stock sold at Basin State Bank auction

The stock of M. L. Gohn was sold last Monday uridey battle mortgage by the Basin State bank. Sheriff Wickwire acted as auctioneer and a large crowd attended the sale. Mack MecKone bought most of the accessories. Lou Blakesley Jr bought the vulcanizing outlet for a Powell concern. Blakesley has been with a government surveying party near Sheridan and will work in Mandelson country then head of the Greybull river.
