Mrs Bud Sheldon Dies at Home Near Hig Trails

Mrs Bud Sheldon, noted for stress in last week's Republican, died at her home near Hig Trails last Friday. She was a sister of Mrs Cowlthorp of Basin. Sympathy goes to bereaved relatives Charley Hanner of Hartington and Rosin, as reported earlier in the week.

Mrs Carter Injured In Sled Accident Near Otto

Mrs Carter sustained a broken collar bone when a splintered tom frightened by a burst of one of the bis breaking caused her to fall on Wia way to Hi Perkins home near Otto. Cary Wan was thrown out and the couple were conveyed to their home where they rested for the night. The bones were wet and the doctor and Mrs Carter contined to page twelve.

Post Office Site Assured for Basin City

Wyoming delegates helped push a post office building for Basin City and the money, $6,000, to obtain waivers. The secretary of the treasury recommends another appropriation to preserve funding for a new post office. The article notes the Jubile Singers’ visit, praising their performers and talent.

Gatchells Order Excites Wyoming Veterans

In Bacon Wyoming Adjutant General Gatchell issued a January 10 order to Lieut Waters of Lovell directing him to Basin to destroy discarded ordnance of old Company B of the state militia. Veterans opposed citing a special act of Congress requiring destruction only by forces of the dead and warned Waters he faced resistance from seasoned soldiers who faced cannon and war. The standoff highlights a clash between military mandate and veteran opposition.

A chaotic federal action led to the donation of old Civil War era arms to Gen O D Howard Post No 110 in Basin Wyoming after Gen Gatchell ordered their return. Orland Waters and local veterans navigated orders and statutes while the post maintained ownership and kept the guns.

Elwood Harvey a noted young man from Tensleep suffered a complete nervous breakdown. He left for home with his mother Mrs Holstein Harvey of Wilmington Delaware after family care and medical assistance in Thermopolis. Anson Higby assisted the family and a trained nurse accompanied the party with Sidney Ingraham aiding during the return journey.

Off for Lovell Heads Basin Boosters to Convention

A party led by Mayor W. B. Collins departed Basin to attend the Big Horn Basin convention in Lovell with J. B. Thompson S. Skovgard G. J. Schehnk and Dan Armeling among the travelers. Lovell reports ten turkeys roasted for the occasion and hints Burlington might have added extra couches if the trip was known sooner.
