Joint Installation Ceremonies At Basin and Eliza Lodges

A joint installation of Basin Lodge No. 35 and Eliza Rebekah Lodge No. 26 was held in Fraternity hall Tuesday night with a banquet and dance afterward. Officers named included Grand Master F. T. Brigham and Naomi Belton as Noble Grand. a program featured songs by a high school glee club and performances by local musicians.

Still More New Wells in Byron Field

The Allen Oil company brought in two new shallow wells in the Byron field during the first of the week. One well, previously abandoned as a dry hole, began spouting as casing was pulled from 1600 feet. Oil surfaced around the derrick and spill area before it could be capped.

Large Barn Burns on Jay Ranch

A large barn on the ranch of Jay caught fire and burned extensively. Firefighters battled the blaze through the night, with flames collapsing parts of the structure and spreading smoke across the property. No injuries reported. Heat damaged nearby outbuildings. Authorities investigated cause.

Loman on the Nowood lost four horses six cattle a automobile harness and many other articles in a fire discovered after feeding in the morning. The origin is unknown and the loss is severe, drawing community sympathy.

Child Hurt By Pitchfork In Play Accident

Little Carl Voss three years old, son of Mr and Mrs John Voss, near Rairden, is in critical condition from peritonitis after a pitchfork tine pierced his abdomen while playing Tuesday forenoon. His older brother pulled the tine free but infection had begun, and the outcome remains uncertain.

Coal development in Big Horn Basin gains momentum

Development of coal will soon advance as a major industry in the Big Horn Basin. Over the past year Gebo and Crosby mines in Hot Springs county sustained heavy output. The Early Coal company expanded near Manderson with 25 workers, while Beall Brothers increased activity marketing coal. Large blocks of government withdrawn land are opening to entry, signaling future leadership for the region’s coal sector.

The county commissioners met Tuesday to organize by electing John Weints as chairman. They approved current bills and officials bonds and designated The Basin Republican as official paper for two years. A retrenchment policy was adopted and several county posts may be discontinued for the coming year.

An early morning gas explosion at the Casper refinery injures a man and shatters windows for blocks around. Firefighters extinguish the blaze with help from the refinery staff and local units.

Changes in naturalization law favoring women proposed

A favorable House immigration committee report outlines a bill to replace two naturalization measures. It ends automatic citizenship from marriage for women and requires individual applications. Children would be eligible for citizenship at 18 to 21 with proof of attachment to the Constitution.
