Midwest oil interests seize lead in licensing and development across regions, signaling shifting control as firms coordinate with regulators to secure exploration rights and maximize production potential. Executives from WN Oil push strategic alliances and energy policy influence.
Midwest Refining company takes over all interests in the Greybull oil field after negotiating with Thermopolis promoters for a quarter stake and striking options on additional claims. Oil found in initial drillings prompts rapid development with rigs and manpower, while Ohbio Oil Co may sell two claims to the Midwest outfit. Field shows three oil bearing sands with thicknesses of 60, 80 feet, and another yet to be exploited. Ownership shares are split among Midwest, Lincoln Townsite, and West Virginia interests, with a large option held by Durham group. A university basketball game in Basin on the 23rd is also noted.
The death of Frank May, a well known Basin resident and Thermopolis civil engineer, after a brief illness at home, comes as a shock to county and Thermopolis communities. Born in Central City Nebraska in 1890, he planned to marry Miss Nellie Nelson in spring. Survived by parents Col W H May, brothers Billy and Bertie, and many friends, funeral held at Adrian Smith home with Rev A M Creath delivering the sermon. Interment at Mount View cemetery. local manager W P Hogarty to lead Lovell sugar factory. colleagues R C May and A B Cross accompanying.
Last Tuesday evening Basin residents gathered at Fraternity hall to hear Pot Herman 8. Hering of Beaton deliver a Christian Science lecture. The stage was decorated with flowers as D. EB. Lewis introduced the speaker who spoke for over an hour to an attentive audience.
At the regular meeting last Tuesday the Royal Neighbors elected officers including Mrs Lou Blakesley Oracle Mrs John Easter Vice Oracle Mrs Lucilla Johnson Recorder Mrs Carl Wilson Receiver Mrs B Wise Marshal Mrs Bertha Anderson Inner Sentinel and Bertha Wheeler Outer Sentinel.
NEW ABSTRACT COMPANY, Aw will be seen By announcement in another column the Western Title & Loan company is now ready for business. C. H. Fitzpatrick, W. W. Murphy and J. P Arnott are the Incorporators. Fitzpatrick will manage and has years of training. The firm will handle abstracts for all Big Horn county land, plus loans, insurance and bonds. The company aims to be a major factor in Basin and Big Horn county commerce.
The regular installation of officers of the Eastern Star was held Wednesday night with Ruth Donaldson as worthy matron and H. Smith as patron. Appointive officers included Margaret Wise marshal and Lena Martin organist. Nellie Zaring installed with assistance from Mesie Rhodes. A banquet for thirty followed at Mountain View hotel.
Uncle Billy Robison a longtime county resident died by self inflicted knife wound in his throat. An inquest held in Hyattville found death caused by his own action with Justice Bonwell and officials present. Interment took place at Higattville. Robison had suffered from long illness and blindness, thought to have driven the decision.
Mrs A Johnson hosted a Friday Kensington gathering for a group of ladies. After a pleasant afternoon of fancy work, a delightful lunch was served to Mesdames Donaldson Morgan Jeas Aime Richardson Stanley Frank Wise Berry Hoover and Zane.
A baby picture contest at the Acme Theater in Greybull Valley captures wide attention. Babies with 200 votes enter moving pictures nightly through Tuesday. adults and children tickets contribute votes. Notable vote leaders include Bernhart Drumm and Hiram Anderson, while other items cover local court actions, a birthday revel, and town business updates.
Charles VonBerg and Miss Gladys Hoel were married in Billings on Tuesday this week. The couple are well known in Basin where they have many friends.
At the last meeting the county commissioners set the contract for the grade work on two bridges across the Greybull and Shoshone rivers. Dave Johnson holds the Greybull bridge contract and Wm Eastman the Byron bridge. Crews expect to finish enough for teams to cross with reasonable ease in a few days.
On Wednesday December 22 the Woman's club will stage a Christmas play for members' children. No business meeting, play starts at 3 PM. Committee chair Mrs W V Cleghorn and associate Mrs R R Denny oversee arrangements. Republicans extend congratulations. Also notes Neils R McKay, Ettie Preston, and Rev A M Creath wed. their home will be Shell valley. Skovgard travels to Casper to discuss a Casper to Omaha pipeline feasibility with Pat Sullivan and Judge W S Mets.
A. Mock, once a prominent Basin businessman, spent a few days here visiting friends. The Mock family is now residing in Denver where Mr. Mock is engaged in business ventures.
Austro Hungarian admiralty defends the commander who sank the Italian steamer Ancona and would have condemned him for not acting. The American note on the Ancona remains unpublished in Austrian papers. A Vienna official says the US bears responsibility for wartime strain by arming enemies and harassing Austrian diplomats.
A Burlington notice calls a December 20 1915 meeting of patriotic citizens to plan ways to resist perceived monopolistic threats from railroads sugar mills and other industries. The item warns of loss of peaceful labor and urges every citizen to attend ready to defend rights and push back the invasion.
W R Tolman Jr a well known Otto country man married Miss Elvira Ranzenberg of Fairview Wyoming in Salt Lake on December 8. They reached Basin last Friday and then went to Otto to begin their life together. Friends and the Republican wish them happiness and prosperity.
W. R. Tolman of Otto, a leading local sheepman, shipped out 1,000 head of lashy sheep to the Omaha market last month, highlighting regional wool trade activity and farm output.
