Cheyenne Session Struggles for Speaker and Senate Picks

Cheyenne reports the eleventh Wyoming legislature opens with a 28-28 House split between Republicans and Democrats. Prominent Democrat contenders for speaker include W. S. Metz, Hayden M. White, and D. N. Stickney. Republicans cite R. A. Baldwin and Capt. A. Youne. The House is seen as a training ground for new lawmakers while the Senate leans Republican with 19 to 8 and 14 holdovers. Contenders for the Senate presidency include Fred H. Blume, Patrick Sullivan, William Dubois, and Jacob Schwoob, among others, with party balance shaping the early agenda and a key decision on a U.S. senator to succeed C. D. Clark looming. Separately, H. H. Wilbois buys Basin real estate, purchasing three Collins addition lots and then contracting further before prices rise.
