The notice proclaims the biggest event in Hore County history as preparations ramp up. Officials urge residents to attend the fair, highlighting extravaganza attractions and community participation.
The Big Horn county fair begins next Tuesday offering four days of entertaining exhibits from across the county. Aviator Carr headlines as the main amusement performing stunts in a regulation army plane. Races, wild horse events, livestock displays, and a sugar company exhibit promise high quality thrills. Governor Carey will welcome soldiers on the second day and uniformed veterans gain free admission. Cavalry units will help with a grand parade and the welcome program aims to honor returning soldiers.
Local manager Br. R. Denny will assume control at the Leidecker Tool Co plant in Basin as Geddes resigns to join the Federal Supply and Machine Co in Augusta Kansas. Geddes cites salary increase and faster advancement as the move’s main incentives. He and his family will relocate about mid month.
Neighbors and friends gathered at O. R. Irwin’s Basin Gardens home last Monday to welcome his sisters Miss Fay Irwin and Mrs. Fisher. Young Basin residents attended the evening ended with a luncheon and a highly successful gathering.
The Basin band will give a dance and free concert tomorrow night beside the Ro theatre. A small charge for dancing will be asked to help pay for the new floor, and everybody is urged to attend.
Exhibit committee members A. W. Cooms H. W Horn and A. 5. Moore met in Chamber of Commerce rooms to arrange a Basin gas gardens exhibit for the fair. Volunteers with cars will collect produce tomorrow and Monday and have it in place by opening day. Basin residents with vegetables or fruit urged to notify the committee for pickup.
The Basin Band will manage dances at the fair with a dance pavillion between the Rex theater and Martins Bakery. They will present a concert there Saturday night and offer a dance each night during the fair promising good music and a fine time for all.
Louis Goodman was charged with stealing 72 dollars from George Dickens on the Montgomery ranch. He pled guilty before Justice Bonwell last Saturday, was bound over to the next district court term in 500 dollars bond, which he failed to post, and was committed to jail.
A wartime appeal urges rapid support for France's war orphaned and wounded, highlighting starving children and high TB rates. The Fraternal League plans a nationwide Tag Day on September ath to fund救 rebuilding health and food for French children, with Mrs. W. Landfall as chairman.
A Basin Wyoming official writes Mason City seeking data on a free camp for automobile tourists. He asks how many thousand cubic feet of gas are used monthly, views the Basin camp as a model, and plans a similar facility in Mason City while praising Basin's hospitality and success.
Mrs. KR B. Landfair received from the American Red Cross the Home Service Institute certificate for completing the prescribed course in home service. She studied in Boulder Colorado and upon return has done extensive Red Cross work and acted as secretary in Miss Alice Thompson’s absence.
Greybull prepares for a giant Labor Day event next Monday led by a committee that has collected over 3000 for entertainment and expects ample funds to make the celebration the best in Wyoming. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mrs. W. B. Dragoo fell at her south town residence and broke both bones in her right ankle. Dr. Chester Harris treated the fracture and predicted a lengthy recovery. Friends express hope for a rapid recuperation.
A three year old son of Mr Snyder on the Nowood Hurst ranch had his left thumb torn off when he fell into running farm machinery. He was brought to Basin where Dr. Chester Harris treated the injury.
Governor Robert D. Carey designates Monday, September 1, 1910 as Labor Day in Wyoming. He urges public expression of harmony between labor and capital and calls for peaceful observance with meetings and recognition of workers. Also note: Red Cross Executive Board accepts Miss Alice Thompson’s resignation. Mrs. Roy Belton elected secretary. a fair booth display planned with President Mrs. Bircumshaw in charge.
Miss Minnie Hauser, longtime employee of the A B Martin bakery, has resigned to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs Jacob Hauser near Otto. Early next month she will marry Richard Hall, formerly a mechanic at Leidecker Tool Co. Basin friends extend congratulations in advance.
Louis Tritech was arraigned on burglary charges for breaking into W. E. Webb’s home near Rairden and stealing a violin. He waived a preliminary hearing before Justice Bouwell and was bound over to the next district court term in $500 bonds, which he did not post, and he was jailed.
County Chairman Thos M Hyde reports helmets and other prizes from the last liberty loan drive have arrived and will be awarded after reports from community committeemen are checked. Schuyler Barrett, drilled on the Pallette dome, was in town en route to Thermopolis for a few days.
William E. Schmeling of Scotts Bluff Neb buys the Rex theatre from Jordy Edwards and will take possession the first of the month. Nels Hokanson is retained as manager by the new owner, an experienced picture show man who plans to supply the town with top offerings.
The Salvation Army drive is active with a Basin quota of 140 dollars and Big Horn County aiming for 1000 dollars. If a solicitor misses you, give your contribution to chairman Harry Drumm or Mrs Frank Time.
The open season for ducks and geese starts September 16 per state license details. Licenses show a September 1 date but subject to federal law, delaying hunting until the 16th. residents may delay trips to Cheyenne to interview federal officials until then.
The Great Western Sugar Company Lovell Factory announces cash prizes totaling 25 dollars for the top five sugar beets exhibited at the Big Horn County Fair of 1919. Prizes include ten dollars for the best five beets from the Basin and Lovell districts, five dollars for the second best from each district, and a total of five dollars extra for the best from either district. Open to growers with 1910 contracts. entries must show five beets with crowns and stem ends. judging based on size and beet type from the manufacturer’s perspective.
Mr and Mrs Thos M Hyde returned Sunday from Rochester Minnesota where he had treatment for some time He is fully recovered and resumes his law practice He praises the treatment and his friends offer congratulations on his return to Basin
Last Tuesday evening Arthurly and family were returning from Basin when a car breakdown near town forced them to leave the vehicle overnight. The next morning the car was found stripped, tires removed, with no value yet recovered for the culprits.
Returned soldier William Jones leads the push for a big drive to fund Salvation Army home service work. County Chairman Wm. C Snow reports strong early support and urges local residents to give generously for the worthy cause.
Mrs G E Brigham entertained last Friday evening with a bridal shower for Miss Charlotte Stiles who will wed Roy Delaney of Greybull. Attendees included Mrs J A Perry Mrs Florence Brown and others. Guests extended best wishes as Miss Stiles received gifts and enjoyed refreshments.
Bert C. Lawton resigns as Lee Automotive Co. manager. He will be succeeded by 8. R. Cole of Douglas Wyoming. Cole visits this week to learn the local plant and plan moving his family here. He is an expert on Ford cars with extensive garage experience and will take over about the 120th of next month. Lawton has not decided his new business yet.
Last Tuesday marked the seventh anniversary of Miss Marion Hime daughter of Mr and Mrs F M Hime. Mrs Hime invited thirty one young friends to the Hime home for games and refreshments as the party enjoyed a cheerful afternoon wishing many more happy birthdays.
The fair committee offers prizes for the parade on Wednesday. First prize is 7 dollars and second prize 3 dollars for the best business and best novelty float. Interested entrants should see Wm Gib aon, chairman.
