Carnival Spirit Leads Red Cross Carnival at Big Horn County Fair

The Red Cross Carnival Nights will bring color to the Big Horn County Fair with committees set to run the street carnival. Dance, Novelty Stand, Hot Dog Stands, Ticket Sellers, Construction, Pop Corn, Free Entertainment, and other stalls are led by named chairs and volunteers. The event aims to raise proceeds for the Red Cross.

Draft bill to extend army draft age to 18 45

Washington reports Congress will take up a manpower bill expanding the draft to all Americans aged 18 to 45 to bolster forces for Germany's defeat next year. Debate will start tomorrow in both chambers with expected passage in short order after committee action and a provision delaying calls for 18 and 19 year olds until those 20 and over are summoned.

Chamber of Commerce Meeting Discusses Road Right of Way and Fundraiser

The Chamber of Commerce met in club rooms for their first regular session in weeks. President A B Martin presided as committees reported progress on securing Pease land access for the Hyattville road and a dance raised 213 with 10 expenses, leaving 20 in balance. A log pole was set in a concrete base to advance the vivie center plans from the landscape architect. A tag rolying event was planned for frat day of the fair with Coons Btowart and Zaring named on the committee.

Late state returns hint at Republican strength across offices

Early tallies show Carey and Morton with a comfortable lead in the county, while Osborne faces Warren and Houx runs opposite Carey. Republican returns are incomplete in some county offices, with key offices including US senator Warren 717 and governor results Camplin 207 Carey 614 Condit 64. Washakie County reports Emerson 213 McClellan 76 for state senate and Carey 165 in governor race with other totals listed. Democratic counts show Fisher 85 Osborne 18 and Houx 94 Ross 118 in the region.

Allyn H. Tedmon, county agent for Big Horn county the past four years, will depart to join Colorado Fuel & Iron Co. He will supervise a 1,500 acre dairy and stock farm and move with wife and baby to Pueblo.

Basin Doctor Receives Orders to Report at Camp Custer

Dr. Chester E. Harris received his orders to report at Camp Custer Battle Creek Michigan in the latter part of next week. He had his commission some time ago and is honored as one of Basin's leading doctors. He will leave many friends but Basin will welcome his early return.

Red Cross Notes on Gauze Work and Knitting Totals

Red Cross reports its 600 abdominal bandages shipped this week and a halt to gauze work until further notice. Garment department requests rapid submission before the fair closes the room. A box of knitted goods is prepared for shipment and Mrs. Mary Avery, aged 8, has knitted 12 sweaters, 2 socks, 5 refugee shirts since last October, plus 72 gauze-room afternoons.

Lyons Engbretson Arrives Home After San Domingo Injuries

Lyons Engbretson, the sailor boy mentioned in last week's Republican, arrived here on the 21st after a postponed arrival. He was met at the depot by his mother and family following injuries sustained on patrol duty at San Domingo, Cuba, which led to an honorable discharge from further service.
