Gas Explosion Injures Two Near Mantua Camp

Frank Smith and Herbert A Warren were severely injured when a gas main exploded at a Lamb Drilling Co. camp near Mantua last Saturday afternoon. Both men suffered major facial injuries from shrapnel as a fitting flaw caused a 900 pound pressure blast. They were transported to Basin hospital with Drs. Harris and Hamilton attending. Warren faces a major future operation.

Chalmers Agency Awarded by G W Black Co

G W Black & Co secured the local agency for the Chalmers car. Mr Black received a demonstration vehicle last Monday and sold it two hours after arrival to John McFayden. The firm predicts strong demand and widespread popularity for the model in the region.

New First National Building Bid Secured for $20,000

C L Goodrich of Wheatland won the contract to erect the new First National Bank building in town at an estimated cost around $20,000. The structure will be 70 by 55 feet, with gray pressed brick, two storefronts, a north light optimized lobby, and a party wall with RK Stine who will build a studio and store room nearby. The project aims to enhance the main business intersection and attract new enterprises.

Dr Hamilton of Greybull underwent an operation for an infected thumb at Masin hospital last Saturday night and is reported as getting along nicely. A boy was born to Mr and Mrs William Tilforth last Sunday night at the home of Mr and Mrs John Hircumahan, mother and child doing nicely. Dr H T Harria reports the arrival of a fine baby girl at the home of Mr and Mrs Hans Winzenfeld on Shell creek last Sunday night.

Leidecker Tool Company to Build Basin Plant on A and Third

The Leidecker Tool Company, the largest in the country, will build a new 47 by 110 foot main plant on Cooks lots at A and Third street Basin. The project includes brick two story store and sales rooms, a machine shop, blacksmith shop, and a diesel engine for power. J J Leidecker Foster Hy Leidecker and R Gettis of Oklahoma lead the efforts with 10 to 12 expert mechanics at start. Construction begins today and should finish in four to five weeks.

Free Picture Show At Big Horn Theatre Tonight

Heating contracts held by T. S. Armstrong Supply firm

T. S. Armstrong Supply holds the contract for a new Moline heating plant at the main grammar school, about half finished and to be completed before the school year starts. The firm also has the heating plant contract for the First National Bank building, the Metz garage, and is remodeling the heating plant in the Johnson-Pease store.

Birthday Surprise At Hoffman Home On South Bench

Last Saturday marked George Hoffman birthday anniversary with a surprise party at his hospitable South Bench home. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Pauley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hurst, Frank I. Rue and family, Wm. Smith, and John P. Zane. The evening featured games and refreshments of ice cream and cake.

Black expands to Overland cars with new 8700 sq ft garage

G W Black & Co has secured a contract with Overland and will specialize in the car. He plans a 30 foot addition to the garage, reaching 8700 square feet. The shop will employ more workers as space allows, and will also handle Chalmera and Willis Knight cars and the Form A truck with a premier northwest service station. When finished, the facility will be the largest in the region.

Big Oil Drilling Push On Pease Tract East Basin

Basin is abuzz as Scott Mills begins drilling on the Pease tract east of town after Northwestern Refining and Mills secured a lease. Mills, familiar with Torchlight and Cleveland Wyoming fields, hopes to strike paying wells. local interest centers on the Pease field’s potential impact on Basin’s economy and oil prospects.
