Million Dollar Tax Valuation Increase Foreseen

A partial county tax roll shows a projected increase in total valuation and tax levy. The 1915 stock value was 5,394,610.70, rising to 6,324,375 in 1916, with personal property up from 1,755.27 to 2,533,623. This excludes utilities and rail lines and adds about 929,763.29 more, likely lifting the overall rise above one million. District 17 anticipates lower town county and state taxes, about three percent.

Adventist Tent Meeting Baptisms Highlight Weekend

Mr. Long notes about thirty Adventists from seven places in the Big Horn Basin attended the Sabbath and Sunday at the tent. Pastor W. T. Sutton of Crawford Nebraska, president of the Wyoming conference, was present. Nine people were baptized by the river, with more seeking study before joining. The nine week meetings continue with strong interest.

Greybul Aerie Installs 80 Members in Greybull

Organize Eaglan AQ Burris and Harry McGee with help from Cady Aerie members installed Greybul Aerie No. 2048 in Greybull taking in a class of 80 including Basin residents. Officers elected include Mayer, Stanfield, Caldway, Smith, Perigus, Shaw, Novia, Rogers, Gatland. Refreshments followed. Also a library party hosted by Mr and Mrs West for Miss Lucille Ridgely of Cheyenne with many attendees.

Land dispute lawsuit targets Big Horn Sheep Company

The suit filed in U S district court seeks cancellation of 98 patents covering about 12 000 acres in Hot Springs Washaki Natrona and Fremont counties held by the Big Horn Sheep Company led by John B Okie of Lost Cabin The filing also asks reimbursement of 354 407 for land rental since the government took up the lands The complaint names Okie and wife Alarice Okie John S Day and others plus the First National Bank of Cheyenne The case accuses the defendants of fraudulent entry by dummy workers and improper transfers to the company The article also notes Haines building plans in Worland and bank construction bids plus a fishing trip by local Republicans and a visit by Mrs J F Wise from St Paul

J Oguki, a farmer near Rainden, visited town Tuesday. He has three years on the Pexton plate with sixty acres in grain, thirty three acres of beets, four in beans, and stock raising. Sugar company officers praise his beet field as among the best in the White Basin country, proving intensive farming can yield a fortune in this region.

School Land Sold Sets Record Price in County

County records show Zela Murphy sold 729 acres of school and state land last Monday, fetching the highest price for such land in the region. Chas T Miler bought 480 acres near Byron at 15.50 per acre, R May acquired 200 acres between Lovell and Kane at 10 per acre, and W J Kennedy took 40 acres near Greyboy at 10.25 per acre. Attendees from the county’s north end gathered to bid and observe the sale.

W H Wyman of Trapper Lodge visited town at the start of the week after leading a large group of tourists from the mountains. He says business is very satisfactory with a noticeable uptick over last season.

Cheyenne’s C L Beatty and Otto M Lorenz visited town last Monday seeking large loans for their companies. They found few borrowers and left convinced there was money in the Basin to meet business needs. Ory Aten departed yesterday for a trip to Werland.
