Moonshine raid at Basin rooming house nets arrests

Sunday evening Sheriff B F Wickwire and deputies seized rooms above the Golden Rule store run by C A Forsyth and May Dale. Forsyth and Dale woman faced liquor charges, pleaded not guilty, bound over to district court in $1000 bonds. Moonshine and empty bottles found. Spratt, agent for the building, ordered Forsyth to vacate.

Baseball Dance at Fraternity Hall Draws Large Crowd

A large crowd attended the baseball benefit dance at Fraternity Hall last Saturday night the 22nd. The entertainment committee reports plans for a second baseball dance in the near future.

Panthers Fall in Season Opener at Greybull

On April 23 manager Fred Frisby took a depleted Basin squad to a practice game against Jim Bluejacket’s club in Greybull. Seven innings ended 6 to 0 for Greybull as Basin players including Panthery captain Earl Ellis and Burns were absent and George Frisby struggled with workouts.

Basin Team to Start Evening Practice Before May Game

The squad blamed lack of practice with many players on the high school track team. Once track ends they will train nightly until reaching form. A May 7 game in Basin will feature Greybull Shell Creek led by L. C. Cheatham, visiting from Greybull the first Sunday in May.

Surveyor Inscho and family arrive to settle in Basin

Inscho and wife and family arrived yesterday from Clearmont and will reside in Basin. He is a licensed engineer and will oversee the C. W. Atherly office in Basin. Basin residents extend a cordial welcome to the Inschos.

Death at County Farm Inference From Gas Incident

John Chanari, an inmate at the county farm, died Wednesday night after a prolonged illness linked to exposure from a gas incident at a local Greybull refinery. He was an Italian national with a residence history in the area.

Basin State Bank Official Resigns for New Post

Harry Hime has resigned as vice-president of Basin State Bank to become cashier at Stockgrowers State Bank in Lander. A Basin resident for twenty years, he has worked with the bank for fifteen years and is highly regarded by local and state bankers. His move is met with regret from friends and the community.

Conditions Show Steady Improvement in Midwest Areas

Operation yesterday at Basin hospital

Beall underwent an operation at the Basin hospital yesterday and a portion of a bone in his foot was removed. It is stated that Carl recovered nicely and is expected to benefit greatly from the operation.

Farewell Dinner for Mrs. C. M. Gingrich

Mrs. C. M. Gingrich hosted a farewell dinner last Friday for 21 ladies at the Markhay. She left yesterday to establish her home in Billings, prompting a social gathering in her honor.

Gas engine plan on ballot for city plant saving costs

Voters will decide next month on installing gas engines at the municipal plant to save about $600 monthly by replacing current engines. The proposal includes installing settling basins and filtering plants to provide cleaner city water and reduce gas use. The town council and Mayor West consulted top experts and support the gas engines and replacing existing engines.

Water plant needs replacement bonds vote May ninth

City leaders urge residents to approve bonds for new filtration and settling machinery as the current plant is aged and prone to failure. Prices have fallen to pre war levels, and voters will decide next week whether to fund the modernization to end dirty water and high gas costs.

Field Meet at Manderson Will Include Regional Entries

A grade field meet will be held in Manderson next Friday afternoon May 6. Businessmen will provide a free lunch and prizes are offered. Teams from Greybull Worland and Basin enter grade events along with entrants from other Basin towns. The Manderson community aims to host a memorable school af fair.

Odd Fellows Celebrate 103rd Anniversary in Fraternity Hall

The local lodge and Greybull units marked the 103rd anniversary with the standard ceremony plus musical numbers. Performers included Miss Winifred Patten and T Earl Keefer with a piano duet by Cathryne Extra and Marion Bishop. Lou Blakesley gave the welcome, and R W Chase and G J Schenk spoke on the order. A reading by Miss Wilma Skovgard and a luncheon followed, with about 300 attendees praising the program and service.

Republican Meetings Across Wyoming Gauge GOP Push

W E Chaplin secretary of state of Cheyenne and Mondell campaign manager joined county chairman P P Anderson for a series of Republican meetings in Cody Powell Deaver Cowley Lowell Basin and Basin Carnegie Library. Attendees were large and preparations for an aggressive fall campaign were underway with Horn County expected to deliver its usual large Republican majority.

Fatally Hurt in Car Crash Near Greenville

Herman Merritt third baseman for the Augusta team of the South Atlantic Association was fatally injured when a car carrying several players overturned near Greenville. Merritt, formerly with the Detroit Americans, came from Greybull Wyoming and was known as a crack shortstop who played for Grey Bull.

School Board Election Next Monday at School House

The annual school election will be held at the school house next Monday. Three members of the board are to be elected. All who are entitled to vote are urged to attend and participate in the election.
