State Engineer F C Emerson told Basin Chamber that proposed water works bonds are unlikely to fit the town’s means. He cited high costs for piping from mountain streams, Shell Creek plans, and deep well schemes, urging elimination of mountain-sourced options to avoid complicating the issue.
The mayor and council deliberate on water supply, endorsing continuing Big Horn River intake and building settling basins and a filter plant. They plan to reuse the old plant to boost capacity, a move described as wise, with continuation on page five.
At the school house last Monday the annual school election was held with C A Zaring presiding and F L McNown as secretary. The board approved last meeting minutes and filed clerk and treasurer reports. A levy of 8 mills for the coming year was discussed and approved with taxes expected to be lighter. Board members named H T Harris and C A Zaring for three year terms and E C Burroughs for one year.
State Health Officer urges Basin residents and mayoral council to approve funding for water purification improvements. He cites successful systems in Green River Cheyenne Fort Steele and Livingston as models and notes required citizen votes to authorize expenditures for purification equipment and storage or alternate supply.

In a Portland Oregon game report Gerald Extra of this place was the hitting star for Jefferson High, collecting three singles in five at bats. He is praised for strong schoolwork and leading athletics.
Ted Denmy has suffered a tick fever attack for two weeks and is under treatment by Dr. McRorde. He is reportedly recovering satisfactorily, the first confirmed tick fever case in this area this year.

T. K. Bishop returned from Denver where the annual meeting of the Midwest Wyoming Gas Co. was held. M. K. Blackmer was chosen to succeed vice president John D. Brooks, with all prior directors re-elected. The new directors approved the proposed gas line extension plan and local manager Bishop expects completion within the year.
Claims totaling eight thousand dollars for damages from Basin Manderson road improvement were submitted to the County Commissioners. The State Highway Department seeks to minimize state right of way expenditures while pursuing federal funding for a Manderson to Avery’s corner project.
The Chamber of Commerce dinner at M. B. Church last Friday focused on the water situation and the bond issue on next Tuesday. Mayor West and the council outlined plans with expert input, urging meters for water users and noting cost savings from plant changes to fund the bonds without higher taxes. State Engineer Emerson attended and shared his understanding of local conditions.
John Snyder of Lovell announces his candidacy in the Republican primaries for state treasurer. He is a banker by trade and currently serves on the state highway commission for his district.
