Developing Ranch in Hinkey Valley near Southern Sierra substation
Mr. Shepard a Pasadena contractor has begun developing land he recently acquired at the river’s edge south of the Southern Sierra substation on the King ranch. A temporary dwelling is built and he with his three sons plan irrigation and cultivation soon. The example set by Hill ranch near Barstow shows sandy lower lands can become productive dairy grounds with fewer water lifts, underwriting lower irrigation costs.

Kansas farms in debt as banks own the land
A Kansas letter from Atchison discusses farmers mortgaged to death, with banks owning many farms and offering up large down payments and long credits. The writer questions whether money, not land, is the true value measure as debt burdens keep farmers in a cycle of borrowing and toil.
