The Barstow Woman's Club held its second meeting of the season at Mrs. George Deskins home. A musical program by Miss Pfau followed by a talk on the opera Tosca and illustrations on stage songs. Mrs Gliebe led current events and aviation and the St Louis tornado disaster were discussed. Members enjoyed reports and other current events.

F. J. Countryman Dies
I. J. Countryman dies at 59 in Sawtell California after a long illness from high blood pressure following a stroke in Barstow about 18 months earlier. He was unconscious for three days before death and funeral services were held last Friday.

I K Loomis was in Los Angeles last week on business. Loomis' daughter and son in law C A Barry who homesteaded 160 acres here the past summer are now in Los Angeles. Nolan Allen came from Pasadena with Loomis to spend time on the chicken ranch. W H Pitman are spending the week on their place here. Mrs O F Hunter of Pasadena was here Monday and Tuesday calling on friends, accompanied by Tom Haymond of San Dimas who took over part of Mrs Hunter's section a few years ago. Mrs Sam Clark is at home after summer with her daughter in Beaumont. John Peacock of Alhambra was buried in the Daggett cemetery Saturday the 22nd. Rev Mr McRae of Barstow officiating. Peacock is the fourth of seven in the family to be laid away in Daggett in four years. He had been in poor health nearly a year. Sympathy for two sons and one daughter remaining.

Tyrrell and his wife Mrs F T Tyrrell have returned to the Harvey House in Barstow after Tyrrell, the Barstow Harvey House chef, endured a three month hospital stay in Los Angeles for an appendix operation. Although the operation was successful, complications kept him between life and death for weeks before recovery. Freshmen Teams Beat Juniors and Seniors In School Basketball
Freshmen boys defeated Juniors 9 to 7 after using their second team in the early minutes. Seniors edged the Freshmen 18 to 5 in a low scoring second contest with strong defense.
