Lauretta Weld led the music session as Macxine McGowan played two violin pieces. Miss Beaumont sang, a piano trio performed Le Secret and Sylphs and Nexis. The club voted to hold future meetings at the new Boy Scout building with a patriotic program planned for November 12.
Dick Duncan III formerly of Barstow traveled through this area en route to Los Angeles to enter a hospital after suffering a paralytic stroke, according to friends.
Doctor Lyle Graham of Newberry reports extensive improvements to his residence and office rooms. His home has been wired for electricity and locals hope the Southern Sierras Power Co will extend power lines from Daggett east to Newberry. The doctor shows his faith by readying his house for connection when power arrives.
Barstow plans a major rebuild and enlargement of the local automatic telephone office by year’s start due to a rising subscriber base. The system, opened three years ago for a hundred lines, now has only five vacant lines while Daggett serves ten and Yerma seven. An extension to add a thousand lines is planned, said Strausnider of the Interstate Telegraph Co, visiting from Bishey to inspect the network.
San Francisco reports the state supreme court spared Leo P. Kelly, once set for death, by applying a new statute. He was found guilty of first degree murder without life imprisonment, then reassessed to manslaughter with a 1 to 1 1/2 year term, delaying freedom for roughly nine years.

George T. Leak, Shell Oil distributor salesman, promoted to manager at Barstow and its substations. J. W. Conrad promoted to Leak’s former role at Victorville. Shell installs Barstow office equipment, adds two staff, with George Brown transferring from Redlands as Barstow chief clerk. Substations at Victorville Ludlow Needles to report to Leak. Conrad remains at Victorville. Frank Greer considered promotion to salesman.

About thirty farmers became charter members and had sought a farm bureau for the Highway District for some time.
