Barstow Library Receives 67 New Books

Kiwanis Club Hosts California Pictures Evening

Barstow and Vicinity residents enjoyed a Kiwanis Club program at the Grammar school auditorium featuring films on the Missions of California the Mother Lode mining district and other historic sites. Atty. Kavanaugh and John Andreson spoke with Doran chairing. an animal film delighted children and adults alike. Mr Barr and Mr Groot sang solos with Mrs Barr at the piano.

Woman Captured Near Helendale Resembles Arizona Murderess

A woman calling herself Mrs. Gillum, claiming Las Vegas as home, was arrested near Helendale by Sheriff deputies and taken to San Bernardino for questioning. She resembled Winnie Ruth Judd, sought for Phoenix murders, but officers concluded she is not the suspect.

Railway grade crossing needed at Helendale

The County Board of Supervisors received a notice from the State Railway Commission stating the order to construct a grade crossing over Santa Fe tracks south of Helendale will expire October 28. Construction was delayed due to lack of a clear title for the right of way. The commission will be asked for an extension of time.

Pastor moves into new Barstow parsonage

Rev. Chester Ferris moved into the newly completed parsonage adjoining the Congregational church in Barstow. The house is described as one of the finest and best constructed in the town, with thoughtful room layout. Mrs. Ferris had stayed in Los Angeles awaiting completion. PTA Fathers Night At Auditorium Draws Crowd

Grammar school auditorium packed for Fathers Night by the PTA. Membership drive tallies read by captains Floyd Lindsley and Mr. Barr, with 84 women and 16 men plus 57 women and 48 men recruited. Winners earn a chicken dinner November 4, while losers dine on beans. Program chaired by Mrs. W G White featured two one act plays, violin duets, glee club numbers, and a closing community singalong.
