Turkey Growers Tour Mojave Valley Ranches

The Mojave River Valley turkey growers will tour large ranches on Monday October 18 gathering at 9 30 a m at the Victorville park. Sponsored by San Bernardino county turkey growers and Agricultural Extension Service the event may showcase about twelve thousand turkeys with stops at Roxbury Adelanto Spring Patterson Turkey Hatchery and Turkey Farms Inc among others.

James John McCue Laid to Rest in Calvary Cemetery

James John McCue died after a night illness at Santa Fe hospital Los Angeles following a stroke. Born in Ireland in 1866 he moved from Los Angeles to Daggett in 1900 and worked on multiple railroads before settling in Barstow. Funeral was at All Souls church Alhambra with burial in Calvary cemetery near Alhambra. survivors include Joe Tom Robert John Catherine Powell and others.

Woman's Club Opens Season With Banquet at Beacon Cafe

Forty Barstow Woman's Club members gather for luncheon to start the new season. Three gentlemen speakers address the group, including Kiwanis president Hr. L. Miller and Reverend Chester Ferris. New year books with orange cover are distributed as flowers decorate the tables.

Mrs Ina Marvin entertained her Bridge club Thursday evening. Mrs BE L White received a fruit dish for high score. Mrs L E Tiernan earned second high with a cake plate while Mrs Lydia Benson got a relish dish for low. Dinner was served at seven.

Infant Daughter of Mr and Mrs Gable Dies

Marie Margaret Gable infant daughter of Mr and Mrs James Gable died Monday in Yermo following pneumonia. Dr MacKenzie reported cause. White and Platt conducted the funeral Tuesday with burial at Daggett. The Gables reside at Midway 23 miles east of Yermo. grandmother Bertha L Jaton lives with her daughter and son in law.

Young Folks Party Hosted by Marjory Barnhart

Marjory Barnhart hosted a Young Folks party on Wednesday evening from 7 30 to 10 30 for a group of school friends. Participants included Edith Copp Evelyn Kerr Joy Harris Francis Mudgett Dwain Kennester Joe Parisia Albert Robert Floyd Carr Pat Morris H Jenkins and the hostess.

Surprise party honors Bud Dillingham on twenty first birthday

On October 18 Mrs Bud Dillingham hosted a surprise party for her husband celebrated his twenty first birthday. The evening featured bridge games with Brainard Sr. and Brainard Jr. winning a carton of whiskey and a box of stationery. Mrs Nevin earned a bottle of catsup for low score. The cake was decorated with Happy Birthday icing and pink candles. Attendees included Rennie Connell, Brainards, Fred Nevin, Bernice White, H O Nelson, Charles Shotwell, Bob Wheeler, and Carmel Farrell.

Picture Show Fred to Public Next Thursday

After a Kiwanis meeting in the Beacon Cafe banquet room the club will adjourn to the grammar school auditorium. Supervisor John Andreson of San Bernardino and deputy district attorney Kavanaugh present a moving picture show taken by Andreson during his travels across the state, including Barstow at the viaduct dedication. Program starts at 7:30 p.m. No charge. a full house from the County Seat is hoped.

Kiwanis Division meetters and road realignments in Cajon area

Henry Miller and others attended the Kiwanis Division meeting in Redlands with George Henderson nominated for Lieut Governor. Jean Laidley was hospitalized in Los Angeles with an infected hand. The Cajon picnic grounds wall was torn down and a highway realignment plan will widen the road to remove dangerous curves, with underpasses and a bridge over Cajon Creek. The Cozy Dell road house will be torn down as pioneer stopping place. Surveys aim to bypass Blue Cut road for storm safety and cost reduction.

September Tourist Traffic Through Daggett and Yermo

In September, 5,146 cars carrying 15,481 passengers passed Daggett and Yermo quarantine stations. Vermo led with 7,073 cars, 2,880 foreign, carrying 2,731 passengers. Total at both stations: 12,219 cars, 36,212 passengers. foreign cars totaled 5,558. One seventh of all tourists enter California via these stations en route to Barstow. Talk on Gas Interests at 20 30 Club Meeting

The 20 30 Club praised the evening speaker L. E. Stern of the South West Gas Corporation who spoke for an hour on gas. Special guests included Harvey Rowe Butch Jones and Allen McDonald. Ogden Platt was named publicity man for the club.

Harold Wright domestic trade commissioner for the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce will visit Barstow on October 16 to interview local businessmen. He surveys Southern California retail to boost local product buying, aiming to raise employment, payrolls, and market for agricultural goods through faster delivery and lower freight costs.

Hoover to Speak on Relief Over Radio

President Hoover will address the nation on radio next Sunday night supporting the Gifford Relief Committee drives for local relief funds. He is expected to speak from Ft. Monroe Va between 6 and 6 30 pm, interrupting a weekend cruise on the battleship Arkansas before leaving for Annapolis with cabinet members.
