The Nationals edge the Americans in a 12th inning finish as Ruel crosses home to seal a 4 3 victory for Washington. Harris and Lebaugh sparked late offense while Johnson pitched strongly for New York before Washington secured the win.
The Hinkley Harper Lake district won first prize for their alfalfa house exhibit full of fresh fruit and vegetables. The display impressed thousands of visitors and beat Southern California entries, with Riverside noting the district’s water wealth and long desert frontier. National Orange Show and Adelanto also earned special awards.
Torst Dillingham Noah Platt and Al Mudgett left Wednesday morning for Deep Creek then plan to pack eight miles back into the mountains.
W G Hargis proprietor of Barstow Mercantile Co announces its first anniversary sale in Barstow. The Williams addition store, started a year ago, features grocery meat and soda fountain departments. A two day sale is being held with invitations to residents of Barstow and surrounding territory.
The Antlers Club began its season with a Wednesday card party at the club rooms. Progressive five hundred was played. Mrs Haam claimed ladies high score winning a box of stationery while George Senderson took the gentlemen’s prize an ash tray. Guests Mrs Josselyn and Mrs Marvin were present and refreshments were served. C E Green reported the death of an elder brother in Visalia last week.
Louis Rankin of the American Sunday School Union traveled from Barstow to Redlands after desert study and reports Sunday schools reopening after summer, including Trena. The union is interdenominational and evangelistic.
Vermo resident T Griner left for a northward vacation on Tuesday. Wm Redman bought a new Chevrolet touring car from Central Garage. Oliver J Finke owns a four passenger coupe with balloon tires. Mr and Mrs Kelly Eastman drove to Los Angeles for the weekend to visit Mother Eastman. H J Dellett and wife returned from Los Angeles where Mr Dellett was in a hospital. Mr and Mrs Paul Cannon of Vermo purchased a Chevrolet Sedan through Central Garage. Mr and Mrs W G Vogel and the former's mother left for Needles. Mr Vogel transferred from the roundhouse to Needles, Cal. Robert Burke and Mrs Floyd Maryin hosted a dinner Saturday night at Mrs Burke's home. Fred Hunt, Mr and Mrs Waters, Mrs Wren and Ernest Heer attended a dance in Victorville Saturday night.
Mrs. Fred Bauer now residing in San Bernardino had her tonsils removed by Dr. KE G. Steele this week, with Mr. Bauer accompanying her at the operation.
Mr and Mrs Paquette and their three children arrived Sunday from Gallop New Mexico. Mrs Paquette is sister of Mr Wetenhall of Barstow. The family will remain in Barstow during the winter.
R. R Burke of the Standard Oil Company in town received L. B. Jeffries, the district assistant sales manager, who was in the area and has been transferred to Tacoma.
Mrs Homer Martin of Hollywood was guest of honor at a bridge party hosted Saturday night by Mrs Harry Kelly. Mrs George Deskins won the favor. Refreshments were served.
W. E. Thompson a former local manager of Standard Oil visited Barstow Sunday while his family now lives in San Bernardino where he is employed by Shell Oil Co.
Two Ford cars met on Baristoay Tuesday afternoon with contrasting California messages on their windshields. Carl Arends, cited for speeding after prior admonitions, appeared before Judge Henderson and was sentenced to ninety days without driving, or ninety days in jail for violation. Speeding endangers drivers and others, a warning echoed as youths and elders suffer from reckless pace.
Last April first the Barstow PTA assumed full management of the local picture show to cut costs and aim for profitability. Presidents and officers led the effort, the group paid off 675 dollars of debt by summer, and the first fall meeting planned a San Bernardino district gathering with 99,600 California PTA members.
Fred Bauer and Fulton Slaton announce plans to erect a brick, fireproof garage 60 by 125 feet and a 60 by 75 feet adjoining store on the new State highway site. Lots chosen, brick hauled, blueprints drafted in San Bernardino, with construction hoped to start soon after contract letting.

Antlers Club completes plans for its Annual Masquerade Ball at Barstow Auditorium on Friday October 31. Soules six piece orchestra from Los Angeles will provide music and prizes will be awarded for best Halloween costumes.
A 16 year old boy walking east of Bryman station last Monday was given a ride to Barstow by Mr and Mrs Tiernan. In Barstow he entered the Methodist church, broke the box lock, and took money and a flashlight. A revolver was found on him. He gave the name William Anderson to Judge Henderson. He was taken to Bernardno and turned over to the Sheriff's office in San.
Monday will be a bank holiday due to the observance of Columbus Day. Since the holiday falls on Sunday the 12th, the following Monday will be observed as the holiday.
