Choice Alfalfa Seed Harvest in Hinkley Harper Lake District

Alfalfa growers in Hinkley Valley and Harper Lake report high yields and rising prices. W A Davia produced 665 pounds per acre from twelve acres, two acres yielded 750 pounds each, Barton averaged 550 pounds from six acres, and 11 500 pounds came from 20 acres at Ea Seymour ranch with three hay cuttings. Over four tons per acre were harvested on Barton and Davis ranches, hay up to 24 dollars per ton. Five acres harvested on H C Bailey ranch, old Henning place opposite Santa Fe depot. Farmers expect prices over a hundred dollars per acre for alfalfa seed and multiple hay cuttings boosting Mojave River Valley land values.

W L Brock from the state traffic department in Daggett visited his Venice home earlier this week. Needles residents Mrs Hinkley Handerson and Mrs Fred Lobaugh spent the weekend in Barstow as guests of Mr and Mrs Hai Varr.

Barstow Women’s Club Meets at Rose Inn

News of Friends to Barstow reports the Barstow Woman's Club gathering at Rose Inn on October 8 with Rev Isaac McRae to preach in Los Angeles October 6 and Rev M M Champion to supply the local pulpit for morning and evening services at 10 45 and 7 20. Everyone invited. Mrs George Henderson hosted her bridge club with an extra table honoring the new bride Mrs Alfred Henderson. A seven o clock two course supper followed with prizes awarded to Mrs Ben Zentmire and Miss Wickler. The Congregational church held Rally Day with 132 in Sunday school last Sunday. Billi Griffith bought a Standard Chevrolet coupe from Bauer and Sinton. Mrs L J Henderson is using a cane after spraining her ankle from a fall last Saturday.

Clay Contract For 100 Tons Daily Reported

Duilius Shade visiting Barstow reports increased activity at the clay products works located about 30 miles west of Barstow. Dec Jones says a contract for 100 tons of clay daily is secured and he is in Los Angeles arranging machinery including a steam cover.

Barstow Airport Gets Teletype and Telegraph Link

J H Cameron general superintendent of Interstate Telegraph Company announced a telephone and telegraph connection for Barstow seven miles southwest of the city at Leawood of Transcontinental Air Transportation Company. A teletype was installed at the airport and connections extend to all company airports under a contract with American Telephone and Telegraph. A Lenwood to Marston line and a double telegraph circuit link with Transcontinental lines via Daggett ensure steady service. Eleven workers installed the system led by local service man Dick Ferber. The Southern Sierras Power Company notes Barstow’s steady growth and promotes travel via Transcontinental Transportation to the new depot. Don Acklin joins Barstow Sierras force, succeeding Merc Hunter who left for the Santa Fe.

Young Barstow Couple Married in Las Vegas

Miss Myrtle Meek and Henry Meek, both of Barstow, were quietly married in Las Vegas Nevada last Friday September 27 at 6 30 pm by Rev Sloan Baptist minister. Attending were Mr and Mrs Glenn Palmer. Meek wore a brown traveling frock. After a wedding supper the couple returned to Barstow. Hayes formerly night man at Tourist Garage now with Dillingham Bros. Meek is daughter of Mr and Mrs A R Meek and a 1928 Barstow high school graduate.
