Kiwanis and Ladies Visit Seymour Ranch

Mr and Mrs Ed Seymour entertained Kiwanis members and ladies at their Hinkley Valley ranch Tuesday night. An outdoor supper featured a large watermelons dessert pile with cream pie for some. Frank Butts won the pie contest while Carl DeWolf joked his rival would have won. A watermelon eating contest ended in a tie among the ladies and John Benson won a three legger race with George Cunningham.

Maintenance Department Barbecue a Success

The Third Annual Barbecue and entertainment by the maintenance of way department in Sycamore Grove Park drew a record crowd. Ben Gouldin led the entertainment committee with David T O Carter Gid Combs and Dick Moore handling guests all day. The day ended with a dance at the Rose Inn and a bridge party hosted by Mr and Mrs Ed Beshan for their guest Mrs Ed Roche from Winslow Arizona. Dainty refreshments and linen gifts completed the festive event.

Miss Callaway seventh grade teacher starts the Cag-Fire Girl organization. Adults urge interested young ladies and matrons to seek Miss Callaway for assistant roles. Miss Helen Jones Visits Sister in San Francisco

Miss Helen Jones left Tuesday on vacation to spend time in San Francisco with her sister Irma, a library assistant at the San Francisco state teachers college. Her brother Herman, ill for months, returned home Friday from San Bernardino after doctors cared for him.

Deer and trout outing near Bishop ends with big buck

Mr and Mrs T H Wilson and Mr and Mrs E Hill returned from the mountains above Bishop after a deer hunt and trout fishing trip. Hill brought home a big buck while the women fished. They plan to return next year for the limit, though the account isn’t vouched.

Car Stolen and Cash Disappears at Tourist Garage

Black employed at Lazenby Meat Market had his Studebaker stolen from Tourist Garage last Thursday night between 12 and 1. The nearly new car is insured and no trace has been found. Night man Spike Flippin reported the garage closed at midnight and receipts hidden. Bud Rush found cash missing when opening later. Investigation traced both the cash, car, and Virgil Worthington leaving his room, the other key holder.

Lenwood field manager relocates with family near new airfield

LENWOOD E Reynolds, field manager of the T A T flying field, will reside in Lenwood with his wife and daughter. A carload of machinery was upset Tuesday in local freight yards, and early Wednesday the machine was at work leveling the new T A T air field near Lenwood, five miles south.

Reports from Mojave Valley say moving picture cameramen filmed alfalfa raising and land clearing with cultivation and market preparation. George Siemon visited San Bernardino on business and noted a strong turkey crop at the Siemon ranch. Mrs. W H Smith of Hinkley Valley died September 8 at her Glendale home after a fall led to complications.

First Student Body Party At Rose Inn Draws 150

The high school held its first Student Body party of the year at the Rose Inn on Friday September 19 drawing about 150 pupils parents and trustees. The English department added a Special English course to improve public speaking enuncia tion and audience addressing and to spur interest in modern plays. The class plans two student body plays speeches for the National Oratorical Contest and school assemblies. Enrollment now 129 up from 104 last year at this time.
