The Richard Griffith Post No. 324 of the American Legion held a public installation of officers Tuesday evening in the Barstow Boy Scouts building. Barstow post covers Helendale to Ludlow with 56 members and recently earned a Washington citation for membership growth. Leonard Larson, retiring commander, commended local efforts. L. C. Powell was installed as commander with a slate including first vice commander Leonard Larson, vice commander Wallis Peelage, adjutant E. D. Blankenship, service officer Chas Mitchell, chaplain Bill Steen, sergeant at arms Ben Long, historian Claude LaBass, and finance officer J. B. Osbourne.

Desert Display Wins at Two County Fairs
The Victorville chamber display at Los Angeles County Fair Pomona won third prize of 100 dollars. A fruit centered centerpiece rested on a revolving cone with valley fruit and alfalfa hay surrounds. Mrs Thomas and Mrs Chambers of Apple Valley led efforts and distributed literature. Alfalfa came from Arthur Brisbane ranch near Barstow. hay sold for 22 dollars per ton in Riverside for a Riverside fair exhibit.

Agnes Wright dies after sudden illness in Victorville area
Mrs. Agnes Wright died at a Victorville area hospital following a two day illness caused by heart pain. She had lived in Barstow ten years with her son Willard and daughter Virginia. Willard works at Santa Fe and the family had a home recently built. The body was taken to San Bernardino for undertaking, then shipped to Pasadena for funeral and burial. Mr. Wright, Virginia and Willard’s father, traveled from Barstow to arrange affairs and care for the children.
