Thanksgiving and Red Cross Service at Barstow Union High
The Barstow Union high school Red Cross drive surpassed 100 percent with teachers signing up last week and students finishing this week. Each Junior Red Cross member paid ten cents. Seniors led, followed by Juniors, Freshmen and Sophomores. Committees were named to assist in needy cases. Five Thanksgiving baskets prepared for needy homes.

Santa Fe Store Clerk Transferred to Needles
Miss Clara Bell chief clerk in the Santa Fe store department will be transferred to Needles December 15. She has worked here eight years. The move follows the consolidation of all store departments. Bert Turner, her brother in law, also transfers to Needles. he was formerly from Barstow and has lived in Fresno recently. Miss Bell's parents live in Daggett.

Mr and Mrs Lupe Duran hosted an open house for their niece Jessie Guerrero as she celebrated her birthday birthday. Friends serenaded her at dawn with stringed instruments and migabments were served all day. An evening dance in the Mexican hall followed with gifts given to the guest of honor.

Tragic Auto Crash Claims Barstow Resident's Husband
Mrs Frank West received a telegram from her Muncie Indiana niece stating her husband Thomas Miller was killed in an auto accident. Mrs Miller had visited Barstow last May at her aunt's home and plans to reside with her aunt after the first of the year.

Four Barstow Union high school students qualified for the California Scholarship Federation at the school year start. Elvin Mudgett Reynald Knaggs Bonnijean McGlasson and Mary Wood earned the required nine weeks of scholastic work with at least three A’s and one B. Mudgett was elected Chapter 93 President for the year. Novitiate pins were awarded to three members. Reginald Knaggs applied for life membership. if his scholarship remains high he will become a Sealbearer and his college progress will be tracked.

High School Girls Open Cafeteria at Newberry and Yermo
Delila Ensign of Newberry and Ruth La Jeunesse of Yermo started a post graduate cafeteria in their high school to serve hot lunches. A Thanksgiving dinner featured a 25 pound turkey mashed potatoes gravy and cranberry sauce with pie. A five piece orchestra provided dancing during noon hour. They run at a 25 cent lunch charge and view profits as experience.

Mrs W W Smith Laid To Rest In Mountain View Cemetery
Mrs W W Smith wife of a Postal Telegraph Co lineman was laid to rest in Mountain View cemetery San Bernardino after a Saturday funeral. The family moved to Needles in 1904 and later Barstow in 1920 where Mr Smith continued in telegraph lineman work. Survived by husband a son Will in Yermo daughters Stella McCain Victorville and Leona Moore San Gabriel sister Mrs 9 A Poole Needles and four sisters and a brother in the east. The husband was taken to his daughter’s home in San Gabriel after the service under a doctor’s care.

20-30 Club Hosts Ladies Night Talent Night
Rodger Hartwick chaired the 20 30 Club gathering on Tuesday with 42 members present. The program featured Dorie Fissel and Fenton Young in Sleepy Time Gal gestures, Dorse Fissel whistling Listen to the Mocking Bird, Mac Rizzardini in Italian song, an out of tune piano, a Hula dancer, and a tin lady robot. Dave Morley of Yermo joined as a new member. Afterward the club played the high school team, losing 22 to 14.

Death in Cajon Pass Car Accident Near San Bernardino
Wm. B. Campbell aged sixty died en route to San Bernardino hospital after a wheel came off his car in Cajon Pass. J. F. Bohlen, Mrs Arthur Millett and Mrs. Stanley Ford removed him from danger as the wheel vanished, and null. Campbell had resided with the Millett home for four months and suffered heart trouble.

Tire blows out car wreck near Ontario
A Thanksgiving gathering planned by Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Woolridge of Tonopah ended in a crash when a right rear tire blew out as they drove into Barstow. The car rolled, glass shattered, top ripped. Mr. Woolridge suffered a broken shoulder and head injuries, Mrs. Woolridge cut on the left hand, and Miss Katherine Schmidt escaped injury.

Howard Pendleton works in the Yermo meat market of Joe McCue who is laid up with an injured foot. At a Saturday dance some one stepped on McCue s right foot causing a swollen foot that required a doctor the next day. He now directs business from his office chair.
