Gas Plant Projects Move Toward Barstow Start

H G Laub of Standard Oil says the company withdrew its gas plant permit in Barstow and Victorville until state approval. Once the State Railroad Commission issues a certificate, Barstow erection will begin, followed by Victorville. County supervisors awarded Laub a franchise for both Barstow and Victorville sites, with Charles F Stern of Los Angeles as financier.

Haws Ranch Sold to Coleman Near River Bridge

Mr Coleman Harvey House news stand manager and his son of Victorville near the river bridge have nearly closed a deal with Mrs Haws to buy the ranch north of the bridge. A Texaco service station is planned at the junction nearby and Mrs Haws departs Sunday for Los Angeles to reside there with Mr and Mrs Floyd Haws also moving to Los Angeles.

Co. W. Brockman visited Barstow Tuesday with Supervisor Doran. The Brockmans reside in the county owned building at Cajon Camp Grounds, an outpost maintained for camping and picnics. Brockman, caretaker, notes tourists arriving from distant states. cement tables were built by Southern California cities and various groups. Lodges also maintain outposts for members camping or picnicking. under Brockman, grounds stay clean and visitors recall pleasant stays.

P T A Meets Tuesday With Sewing Aid Donation

The Parent Teachers Association held its Tuesday meeting. Due to illness, Mrs. Dee Cooper was absent and Mrs. Burton Leak led. Principal Lindsley announced Mrs. Grandstrome donates an hour daily for sewing lessons and the group voted ten dollars for supplies. Mrs. Jonas read a Christmas story, and Mrs. Thompson spoke on storytelling techniques.

Girl Scout Leader Changes and New Appointments

Mrs Haws announced Mrs Hartwick as the new leader and Eunice Pray and Marie Crooks as Lieutenant and Assistant Lieutenant after a handkerchief shower to honor her departure. Thelma Imel became Dove Patrol Leader. The group practiced basketball at the Grammar School Auditorium and thanked Mr Lindsley for use of the building.
