Modern Poultry Farm Emerges Near Harper Lake Valley
J. H. Marshall of Harper Lake district northwest of Hinkley visited Barstow with Davis. Marshall bought the McLaughlin home and acreage and started a modern egg ranch with 350 chickens, planning over two thousand next spring, one laying house of 300 hens and three more, plus feed self-sufficiency. A pump is being installed and alfalfa sown to create a ten acre park like setup. Davis sells turkeys to Long Beach at top market price, with some deliveries to Barstow and contracts for early season sales at 53 cents.
