Arthur L. Doran, manager of Barstow Garage, named to succeed the late U S Crain as Barstow area supervisor. Announcement circulated by Bruce W. McDaniel and San Bernardino press reports. Annual Duck Banquet Brings 300 Orange Show Boosters

The San Bernardino National Orange Show directors hosted the annual duck dinner at the California Hotel in San Bernardino with 300 attendees from counties across Southern California. Officials, citrus representatives, and media members heard progress reports for the Nineteenth National Orange Show to be held February 14 to 24, 1929, with posters from state high schools on display and performances by the Nymphonic girls dance orchestra and Jose Arias troupe.

Carnival Postponed By P T A Due To Flu

The carnival planned by the PTA for Thursday and Friday this week has been postponed due to the flu. It will now be held December 6 and 7 with the same organizers and venue.

Popular Supervisor Crain Buried With Masonic Honors

The death of C S Crain shaded Victorville and San Bernardino as friends learned he died at 1240 am Friday. Former Ely Nevada publisher and Pine County sheriff Crain led newspaper ventures with G M Moon before moving to Victorville. Elected supervisor thrice and chair during his second term, he championed district projects including a high school sidewalk. He was buried with Masonic honors at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino as drums and taps honored his service.

Mrs Dick Young Rushed To Victorville Hospital

Mrs. Dick Young was rushed to Victorville hospital Tuesday night for appendicitis surgery. Dr. John L. Graham performed the operation at 8:15 and again at 9:00, and Mrs. Young was resting easily by Wednesday evening and recovering as well as could be expected.

Mrs McMullen Buried at Mountain View San Bernardino

Kathleen M. McMullen wife of J T McMullen died at her Barstow home after a long illness. Funeral services were led by Rev Isaac McRae at the Congregational Church and the body laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino. She was born in 1848 in Pendleton County West Virginia and lived in multiple states before settling in Barstow in 1902. Mr McMullen and extended family survive.

Dr. John Graham invites the Lino type operator at the Printer office to a Wednesday evening ride and tour of the Victorville hospital near Victorville. He praises the hospital as up to date with a superior X-ray and operating room and a complete laboratory.

Favorable Report On Boulder Dam Commission Study

Washington report says the Boulder Dam commission finds a 550-foot dam in Boulder canyon feasible and fundable from power sales within 50 years. It calls for coffer dams during construction and changes to the all American canal plan, with a projected cost near 165 million dollars, possibly higher than earlier estimates. The summary was sent to President Coolidge ahead of December Congress, as Swing Johnson moves to the Senate.

Smart Benefit Bridge Luncheon at Rose Inn

Sixty ladies attended a Saturday benefit bridge party sponsored by Mrs. George Henderson and Mrs. George Desking at the Rose Inn. Twelve bridge tables and three five hundred tables filled the autumn decorated room. Hostesses including Mesdames Henderson Mosier Whitlow Beimer White Brooks Christensen Davies and Kelly served two tables each. Luncheon was served and prizes awarded for high and low scores. Proceeds supported the local Woman's Club.

Barstow Union High School hosted a large audience at the Grammar School with essays dialogues and small plays from classes. A group agrees to form a California corporation to own and operate a Mojave Valley creamery for milk producers. Capital stock set at 50000 dollars, with 30060 dollars max issue without two thirds consent. Shares 100 dollars each, no more than 10 shares per person, no proxy voting. Ten percent payment due, rest when called by directors, producer notes possible. Plan includes Barstow Creamery purchase, fixed dividends, sinking fund, and producer profit distribution.
