D Landows, an American and Swiss watchmaker, opens a Barstow shop after years at Schlesinger Department Store in Oakland and service as a Central Pacific railroad watch inspector. He comes highly recommended and maintains a location in the Barstow building.
The Woman's Club of Barstow hosts a bridge tea and card party at Rose Inn this Saturday afternoon at 2. Admission is 50 cents to benefit the club. Rev. L. J. Lambrick will conduct services at Death Valley Junction, with St. Joseph's Barstow also serving Blythe Ludlow and Death Valley churches. Holy Mass at St. Joseph's Barstow on Sunday November 18 at 8 00 am and 9 30 am, with Mass in Barstow the first and third Sundays each month.
The Sunshine Temple Pythian Sisters host a Wednesday bazaar in the Hotel Stewart Victorville afternoon with a card party to follow at 8 PM. Baramw people are invited to attend.
The Barstow Woman's Club gathered Tuesday afternoon at the Rose Inn with Mrs. Myrtle Meek presiding. An Armistice week program featured Rev. McRae and William Brook discussing its meaning and wartime events in France, followed by performances from Mrs. Peck and her viola pupils. A bridge club event is set for November 17 to benefit the club, with the next meeting on November 29 and a Thanksgiving program led by Mrs. Gouldin, Meek, Forrest, and Johnson. all are welcome.
Mr and Mrs B F Gauldin hosted relatives over the weekend: their nephew Clarence Gauldin of Walnut Park with his wife and baby, Mrs Elsie Brynes of Los Angeles, Florence Bennett of Inglewood, and Ben Cutter of Inglewood.
A fancy work booth at the Carnival offers many beautiful pieces for the Christmas season. Shoppers will find a variety of decorative items and crafts suitable for gifts and home decor.
The Richard Griffith Post of the American Legion staged its first Barstow Armistice Day rodeo. A parade from the Rose Inn to Barstow Garage opened the event with the San Bernardino drum and bugle corps in blue uniforms. Cowboys and girls rode bucking horses and bulls, with a side show on a bucking burro. One rider, Stanley Snedigar, was injured, then treated by Dr. John A. Graham. The dance at the Rose Inn in the evening drew a full house with Palmer orchestra.
P T A announces its first annual carnival to be held Thursday and Friday evenings November 22 and 28. The event will feature a Negro Minstrel by the High School, programs by the Grammar School, and new side shows. Half of the proceeds go to build a Boy Scout recreation hall and to Barstow schools.
The Wednesday Bridge Club met at Mrs. Gouldin’s home with substitutes Mrs Forrest and Mrs Worts due to absences. Mrs George Henderson won the high score in the session.
Bring friends to the waffle supper hosted at the Carnival Ady invites community members to join for a shared meal and social time. Proceeds may support carnival activities and local groups.
The 20 30 Club of Barstow hosted a dinner for employers at Rose Inn on Tuesday. Alfred Henderson introduced his father Lubin J Henderson as the longest serving boss. New members Al Flippen and Neal Henderson were welcomed. W G Brooks of the Legion praised the rodeo and Armistice Day finances and pledged cooperation with local clubs. D P Wieman of the San Bernardino YMCA spoke on the 2000 club’s role in developing young men. Irvin Givins led song with Van Aman at piano. Several members plan to attend the 2080 Club in San Bernardino Thursday.
O L McNickell of Needles suffered injuries in Baghdad this morning and was rushed by train to Santa Fe hospital in Los Angeles after treatment at Dr Graham in Barstow. Mrs McKinnon, a local nurse, accompanied him to the station. He works as a pumper for the Santa Fe.

Mrs Frank O Connells hosted a Democratic party Tuesday at her new Ludlow home. Election returns were heard by radio with refreshments served. Several Luddow residents and visitors from Yucca Barstow and Death Valley attended various social and family events including baptisms and anniversaries over Armistice Days and the weekend.
Ralph Motherspaugh, highway engineer, came in from the east section of the county Monday, stopping for dinner with friends at Tony's Cafe. He was inspecting the work getting underway in the Newberry and Needles district.
County motorcycle officer B. A. Hancock was hospitalized after a Sunday fall from his bike at a railroad crossing near the Cajon Pass. He was found beside the machine on Wrightwood road after his motorcycle hit a ditch dug beside the track.
