Barstow Union High School awards eleven students membership in the California Scholarship Federation. Motorcyclist Killed In Head-on Collision Near Yerma

Don S. Cutter of 343 East Foothill Blvd Pasadena died in a head on crash with Louise and Walter Barnett of Los Angeles 30 miles east of Yerma while en route to Las Vegas. The inquest found Cutter and Theodore B. Brancroft of 553 No Garfield Pasadena were involved. Barnetts exonerated. Cutter, 30, a merchant patrolman for De Water and Brownwood, died of a broken neck and internal injuries. his body taken to Pasadena.

Barstow Woman's Club Hosts Tuesday Evening Event

The Barstow Woman's Club will entertain the public next Tuesday at eight in the Boy Scout building. Whist will be played, a musical program and refreshments will be provided. Worthwhile gifts will be given away as the club raises funds and solicits support.

Missionary Thanksgiving Service at Barstow Free Methodist

A missionary Thanksgiving program will be held Sunday evening at Barstow Free Methodist Church at 7:30. Miss Ethel True, longtime Mexico worker, will give an address about her experiences. Congregants are invited to bring Christmas gifts for Miss Rachel Smiely in the Dominican Republic and Miss Lucy Hartman in South Africa. Thanksgiving boxes will be opened at the close of the service.

Officer Lynde Solves Daggett Car Theft Case

Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Hill received a morning call from Daggett inspectors asking if their Chevrolet was in the garage. The car had been stolen by two to three men, rolled uphill to the highway, started, and later found east of Daggett stripped of tires and a wheel with a Masonic emblem identifying the owner.

Parents Show Interest In Father’s Night At Grammar School

The PTA at the grammar school drew record attendance on Tuesday night for Father’s Night. Mrs. Harry Kelly led a short meeting and officers voted to furnish tablecloths for the Boy Scout Building and to restore the moving picture machine. The eighth grade won a fern for best attendance. The American Legion plans a turkey shoot next Sunday at 9 am on Seventh Street with fourteen turkeys for high scores. Harvey J Steel, LDS elder from San Bernardino, spoke in Yerma and will return to Idaho. Mrs Harvey Mosier hosted a club gathering with lunch and cards. Word from Los Angeles says Riley Witty left the Santa Fe hospital after nine weeks under doctor care. He is much improved but will lack strength to resume duties with the Fred Harvey system for some time. Witty, once manager of the Barstow and then Needles houses, has many Santa Fe friends hoping for a speedy recovery.

Miss Margaret Cliebs wed Oliver Cromwell Gilson at Sacred Heart Church in Klamath Falls Oregon on November 19. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Louis William Gliebs of Barstow she was a Barstow High School graduate and popular with the younger set. Mr and Mrs Gliebe and son John returned today from Klamath.

Auto trip ends with slight injuries after freight-car collision

W H Sides, his step son, and Mrs A C Wilson were crossing passenger tracks in an auto Tuesday night when struck by a switching freight car. The car wrecked but occupants escaped with slight injuries while returning from the Sides home to his camp grounds.
