Merchants Association to be Formed in Barstow

A Barstow meeting in L. J. Henderson's tailor shop gathered fourteen merchants to plan a local merchants association. A. H. Pendleton chaired. L. Tiernan was secretary pro tem. The secretary will seek by laws and benefits from other towns and report next Tuesday night with officer elections and a permanent organization.

Barstow High School Notes Armistice Day Picnic

Barstow Union High School notes report Juniors hosted an Armistice Day picnic at Paradise Mine with hospitality from Mr and Mrs Gearon. Chorus is replaced by a four day Glee Club plus Friday assembly. Carnival set for November 19 at 7 pm with 25 cent admission and a 45 minute program and booths selling toys candy ice cream and Xmas gifts.

Hiawatha Oil Company Formed In Kramer District Boom

News from Kramer Oil District reports an oil boom this winter between Barstow and Kramer. Several new firms form as Interstate Oil Company advances development. Hiawatha Oil Company lists FS Dougherty as president and Frank H. McCormick as secretary with a slate of directors from Manhattan Beach, Hollywood, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Properties span sections 4 3-10 2-11 9N 4W and nearby areas. John Ramm and J Jameson also form companies with lands in nearby sections. Dr Kistler of Los Angeles is obtaining leases southwest of Barstow.
