Prospecting and mining activity along Mojave river region picks up

The Mojave River valley hosts Foster Mines near Valley Wells with a 62 ton Ball mill at Windmill Station to process gold ore from Shadow mountains and other properties. Leasers are sought while power from Boulder Dam is seen as the lure to revive mineral activity. Barstow and Daggett are noted for better water and land prices.

Barstow High honors four for California federation

Barstow Union High School announces four honor students for the first quarter eligible for life membership in the California Scholarship Federation. Seniors Reginald Knaggs and B E L Mudgett Jr are named along with freshmen Bonnie Jean McGlason and Mary Wood for their 100 percent records and status as honor students.

Hendrickson and Christiansen Wed in Las Vegas

Miss Anna Hendrickson of Appleton City Missouri and Norman Christian sen of Barstow were quietly married November 10 in Las Vegas. The bride is sister of Mrs. Dick Young and has spent six months visiting here. The groom is in the Barstow produce market with his father. They will live in Barstow where a home has been prepared.

Mexican shot by boys while hunting on ranch property

Julius Shale reports two boys trespassing on his ranch hunting with a 22 rifle. They were warned not to shoot at stock. A Mexican worker was shot at, with one round near the head and two in the hand. He sought medical care in Barstow as Shale swore out a warrant for the boys.

New Daggett Home Nears Completion on Local Lot

The Jim Lucas residence in Daggett is nearly finished on a lot purchased from Mr. Umbehead4. A new Daggett water well drilled by Mr. Harris has created a plentiful water supply in the town.

Re location of Lights creates Daggett radio beacon

Government re locates airway lights and installs a 24 inch revolving beacon at Daggett as part of a national air mail safety program. The project will also rearrange beacons near Cajon Pass and move Verdemont Field north of Fontana while adding teletype stations and planned radio beacons along the western division toward New York. Total cost is undisclosed but expected to run thousands of dollars.

Mrs Ray Smith Hosts Bridge Afternoon for Twelve Friends

Mrs Ray Smith entertained twelve friends with a delightful Saturday bridge afternoon at her home. Refreshments included Angel Food cake and pineapple sundae. Miss Frank earned high score with a low vase, Mrs Van Aman second high received a tall ebony bud vase, and Mrs Lillie won a candy box for low score. Bernice White visited Los Angeles on Sunday.

Reverend Frank C. Reid spoke to American Legion members and their ladies during Sunday evening services honoring Armistice Day. He delivered an earnest message titled The Beginning of Wisdom as the flag salute occurred with post color bearers presenting the colors.

About forty members attended the Barstow Woman's Club November meeting. After a brief business session, Rev. Reid opened with prayer, a Boy Scout flag drill followed, talks by Mrs. Osborne of Daggett and Legion leaders, a flag salute, and a Mystery Box prize. War songs, tea, and cake capped the gathering. The club invites the Victorville groups to a November 15 event.

Physicians Report Children Above Average at Clinic

The State Board of Health held a Saturday clinic at Gram Inar school with Drs. Hainsworth and Grey presenting results. Of 98 examined children, general physical condition was above average, with attendance higher than typical 30 or 40. The P T A and Mr Lindsley aided, with Mexican community support noted.

Miller heads to Oakland for district Kiwanis convention

H U Miller departs by train Tuesday for Oakland to attend the Nevada California Kiwanis district convention on the 13th to 15th. He will visit son Wallace Miller and wife at the Durant hotel. Wallace, recently named associate manager of the Lake Merritt hotel, helps run two of Bay City’s leading hostels.

Suspected nartette linked to series of hold ups

Deputy Sheriff J E Farley led a posse that captured four young men in Victorville after the hold up of Deputy Fuller ton at Bagdad. Fuller ton was tied and later freed from lava rocks the car and stolen items from a Gus tini grocery were found in the car. The four men Ralph Harvey August McCune Gabriel Pepin and William Hamil await preliminary hearing under $1500 bonds. They are also tied to thefts of a Los Angeles auto and a Needles light coupe.

William W Warren Dies in San Bernardino at 58

William W Warren formerly of Barstow died at his home in San Bernardino on Monday aged 58. A California resident for most of his life he worked as a high school bus driver in the Hinkley district. He is survived by his widow Grace D Warren a brother James Warren of Monte Vista Colorado and a sister Alpha Warren of Del Harte Colorado. Funeral services were held at 2 p m Wednesday with burial in Mountain View cemetery.

Legion Dance a Big Success at Rose Inn

The Armistice Day Dance hosted by the American Legion drew a large crowd at the Rose Inn on Tuesday evening. The hall featured floral decorations and a log fire, with noted fine music. Auxiliary members sold homemade candy at the event.

Route of Southern Sierras Power Line to Barstow

The Southern Sierras Power Company disclosed plans to build a line from San Bernardino via Victorville Barstow Daggett and Vermon to Black Canyon or the Boulder Canyon Dam site. The route traverses desert and mountain terrain, crosses the Arrowhead highway near Manix, passes Baker and Mountain Pass, Mohawk Canyon, Clark Mountain, Wheaton Springs, and Ivanpah Valley, crossing the Union Pacific near the California Nevada line. Construction challenges include rugged terrain, granite mountains, salt lakes, and desert conditions, with past company experience in similar builds aiding the effort.
