Popular Local Man To Be Assistant Cashier

Ray O'Brien is elected Assistant Cashier of the San Bernardino Valley Bank and will depart for San Bernardino at month’s start. He replaces J R Thompson promoted to Cashier at Needles. O'Brien has worked with Dillingham Brothers and earlier as Chief Clerk in Santa Fe's Mechanical Department for six years. He aided Valley Bank’s labor-led takeover plan, helped establish the Barstow Branch, and has been a San Bernardino Valley Bank director for three years. He led the Clerks Union locally and chaired the bank’s Examining Board.

Dillingham Store Robbed Monday Night

A night prowler burglarized Dillingham's main store Monday night breaking a rear window pane and taking cakes candy assorted eatables pocket knives and $1.83 in coins. Officer Pitcher noted the scene bore hallmarks of hobos traveling by freight trains seeking food.

High School Grounds Driveway Request Not Approved

Chiropractor Charged With Fraud In California

Sacramento reports that Dr. Percy Purviancé, an Oakland chiropractor, faces charges of deception and fraud to obtain a California license. The State Board of Chiropractic Examiners will hear the case in Sacramento next Thursday, with Purviancé cited to show cause why his license should not be revoked. The board notes ongoing scrutiny of Purviancé and Berkeley Chiropractic High School, amid disputed past teaching links to Barstow schools with a similar name.

S. G. Phillips, long time Hinkley district farmer, purchased 100 acres of the Johnson ranch south of the Hinkley school." The deal totaled 20000 dollars. The property includes orchards residence barn outbuildings and farming implements. Possession is taken immediately with plans to grow more alfalfa and supply water from a large reservoir at 20 feet lift.

Entertainment by Mexican rooms at Barstow School

The two Mexican rooms at Barstow grammar school will stage an entertainment in the Auditorium on Friday November 20. Misses Longfellow and Coan will supervise the foreign grades. Proceeds fund a sewing machine and school needs. admission is 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for children. Mrs. Robinson, music supervisor, earns much credit for the show's success.
