Barstow Gains State Road Maintenance Plan
The California Highway Commission plans to assume maintenance of about 1711 miles of county roads on state routes starting January 1. In San Bernardino county the routes include Route 9 over Lytle Creek Dip, Route 31 from Daggett to the state line via Yermo and Baker, Route 58 from Barstow to Kern County line via Hinkley and Kramer, Route 58 from Daggett to Needles via Ludlow Amboy and Goff, and Route 58 Needles to Topoe.

Barstow booster Garver hosts Thanksgiving guests Mrs Garver’s uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs G D Hutchison of Los Angeles. They drove out Wednesday and will return Sunday. Hutchison formerly served as agent in Barstow and still follows Mojave River Valley farming coverage in the Printer.
Lara Home Destroyed By Fire In Morning Blaze
A Mexican family named Lara saw their home near the trend house and Homer Martin residence destroyed by fire Monday morning. Fire siren preceded the blaze, which burned rapidly but stopped short of nearby small houses. Origin of the fire is unknown.

Switchman Burke Injured In Auto Accident Near Helendale
William Burke a Barstow switchman, returning from Los Angeles, was side swiped by a passing machine three miles east of Helendale. The occupants fled after the impact leaving him by the roadside. He was taken to Santa Fe hospital in Los Angeles in critical condition with seven broken bones and possible internal injuries. The Elks Club and local residents aided in identification at Helendale and San Bernardino. Authorities hope the culprits are found and brought to justice.

Barstow Highway Paving Contract Awarded
The Barstow paving project moves forward as the Board of Supervisors grants a contract to A W Gardner of Redlands for 5500 dollars to pave one strip of the National Old Trails highway. The balance will be funded by the State Highway Commission and Santa Fe railway under a prior gentleman's agreement. Work begins likely by late December.

Roads Near Ludlow In Good Condition
The Barstow to Ludlow highway is in its best condition for years with graveled sections. The highway crew, led by J A Clark, begins work from the railroad tracks five miles west of Ludlow into town and extends nine miles east from Ludlow. A crew of 30 men operates eight trucks on the east end, with more trucks to be added as the west section finishes this week.
