Sun Set Inns Co plans a high class auto inn on Route 66 in Barstow with about 50 000 dollars invested. The building will feature 36 rooms including 20 singles and 16 doubles with baths and garages, plus a 16 booth restaurant and a general store. An adjacent neon tower and lights will mark the site east of Richfield’s station as the chain eyes future stops from Barstow to Chicago including Kingman Williams Holbrook and Gallup.

Miner Jack Doherty Injured in Calico Mine Shaft
Jack Doherty was badly injured at the Zenda mine Calico while working on the 240 foot level. His sleeve caught in a pump set screw tearing his thumb and injuring both arms. He rang a danger signal, was aided by coworkers, and later taken to Barstow for medical care with recovery expected.

Free Lodging Offered After Hotel Melrose Detainment
Walter Finn, 18, was detained by Officer Farley at the Melrose Hotel on Monday night after driving an old Ford up and down an alley then entering the rear stairs. Finn claimed he went in to get a room but could not explain the rear entry. He was held in a jail room while his record was checked.

Weld children entertain with spook party
Nine children of Nathele, Eleanor, and James Weld hosted a Halloween gathering at their home from 7:30 to 10. Guests arrived in costumes, the living room glowed with Halloween decor, a ghost lamp added an eerie touch, and games and ghost stories preceded a table of cat shaped cookies, fruit jelly, and cocoa. A thief reached through an iron grill at Pendleton’s to take about 20 pounds of bananas from C. Peterson and Son’s stock. The robber rang $1.00 on the register, but only pennies remained. A watch from Mr. Christiansen was taken from the till. The Sunday night robbery remains under investigation.

Colored girl dies on Santa Fe train in yard
Ordria Watley a 20 year old colored girl died of pulmonary tuberculosis Saturday night as her father William J. Watley carried her toward Santa Fe train No. 18 bound for Phoenix for her health. The body was prepared for shipment to Corcoran. A son had died in an auto accident three weeks earlier. Coroner A. W. U'Ren signed the death certificate in San Bernardino.
