Franchise Awarded For Local Gas Plant In Barstow And Victorville
Supervisor A. I. Doran says the Board of Supervisors granted franchises for gas plant installation and distribution lines in Barstow and Victorville. Hi G Loubs of San Bernardino won Barstow with 125 dollars, George Watson of Los Angeles bid 84 for Barstow and 55 for Victorville, the lone bid. Watson bid 24 for Ludlow but it was rejected. A June 26 hearing sets the state railroad commission permit for operation. The Natural Gas corporation, Standard Oil subsidiary, asked for a Barstow permit but did not bid. Laub, the original Barstow applicant, noted no start date yet.

Three Mexicans Arrested For Bootleg Activity
Constable Ed Harris and F S Snedigar arrested three Mexicans Monday night after a disturbance near Marie Delgado’s home. They found a ten gallon still and two gallons of whiskey with Hermandez intoxicated. Diaz demanded trial. bonds set at 500 dollars for Diaz and 1,000 for Hernandez. Aradondo pleaded guilty and received 75 days in jail. The trio was jailed in Victorville.

Party at Compton Ranchi Anniversary Celebration
Last Tuesday afternoon and evening a pleasant event was held at G. C. Compton's home. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Shaver marked their ninth wedding anniversary with ice cream and cake. Snapshots were taken and a colored ice tub with tongs was given. Mrs. C. M. Compton of Pasadena visited, and J. B. Mulcahy of San Bernardino joined the gathering.

Birthday Party at Yermo
Anne Everett Palmer celebrated her ninth birthday at a Yermo gathering last Thursday. She arrived in Yermo as an infant when her father known as Yermo Red served as a Union Pacific officer. A turkey dinner with trimmings followed at 5 30 p.m. Grandmother Palmer canned preserved plums over twenty years ago. they were hermetically sealed and tasted delicious. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Briscoe and their daughter Phyllis, Mrs Anderson, with regrets from Rev Reynolds of Los Angeles and Mrs Lane of Calico and Mrs Walter Brown. Gifts included a box from New York containing red Maple sugar.

Scout Troop No 55 sponsors a carnival west of the Rose Inn. Stanley Snedigar promised to wrestle the middlewest champion McGlauglin, with proceeds benefiting the Boy Scout Fund for summer camp. The match is Saturday at 8:30 P M. Snedigar is the heavyweight night policeman in Barstow.

Barstow's club women banqueted at the Harvey House Tuesday evening then met at the Boy Scout building for a short program. Iv E Tiernan reported on the State convention in Oakland. New officers were presented, Beimer honored as president, Henderson received a gold past president pin, and P W Willett sang two numbers. Club adjourned until September.

Local Women Seriously Injured In Torrance Crash
A Sunday afternoon tire blowout sent a Ford Coach into a telephone pole near Torrance en route to the beach. Mrs. Jim Overton of Barstow and Mrs. Grace Paire were seriously hurt. A group of 100 educators from UNC, USC, Virginia and Tennessee will arrive in Barstow on June 28 and 29. The 14 cars will travel Las Vegas via Arrowhead route with camping gear and cook cars.
